Boasting the league’s second-best record, Matt Arnold is hunting for elite pitching and impact bats to fortify this Milwaukee Brewers roster.

For Milwaukee Brewers fans, Monday, Aug. 3, is the date to monitor.

With the trade deadline quickly approaching, general manager and president of baseball operations Matt Arnold knows this is the year to be aggressive.

The Brewers have a tendency to be sellers at the deadline as seen with their memorable Josh Hader trade a few years ago that completely derailed everything.

Here in 2026, they have the second-best record in all of baseball, and their 3.44 team ERA is astonishing, knowing they're without Brandon Woodruff and Quinn Priester for the rest of the year.

Currently, it's known that Arnold is "wide open."

With his eyes on both pitchers and hitters, one can only imagine the kind of damage the Brewers could do the remainder of the 2026 season.

Arnold on not being too aggressive

In an interview with MLB.com's Adam McCalvy, Arnold revealed as much about his trade deadline transactions as he possibly could: "I've been on the phone a lot. We're definitely active."

That includes Arnold reaching out about Detroit Tigers' Tarik Skubal and San Diego Padres' Mason Miller.

Again, the Brewers are down a pair of starters; they have to monitor the status of Jacob Misiorowski and Logan Henderson, and that's not even including Kyle Harrison, who's set to return from the Injured List early next month.

Reliever-wise, there's no doubt Trevor Megill has been doing his job. After getting through a rough patch earlier in the year, Milwaukee is extremely confident in Megill, Abner Uribe, and Aaron Ashby to eat the final three innings. That said, one can never have enough relievers, especially after the Brewers lost Angel Zerpa quite early into the year.

This could be the Brewers' year

The American League is extremely weak, but the Los Angeles Dodgers are hungry for a three-peat. If there was ever a time for Milwaukee to make a splash, it's now.

"It takes two to tango, and the market right now is fairly tight, just given the number of teams in play for the playoffs,” Arnold said. “It’s good for the game, but it makes it harder if you’re trying to buy.”

He added, "We want to be in play as much as we can."

McCalvy noted that while Arnold is able to do whatever he pleases, he's been in close contact with assistant GMs Karl Mueller, Matt Kleine and Will Hudgins, executive advisor Matt Klentak, senior VP of player development Cam Castro and vice president of baseball research and evaluation Ethan Bein, among others.
