The Milwaukee Brewers were able to overcome a three-run deficit in their series-opening game against the Houston Astros on Friday with a 5-4, 10-inning win.

The Brewers relied on five relievers to get them through to the finish line, and Abner Uribe was one of them.

Uribe, who was supposed to serve a one-game suspension for an obscene gesture he made against the St. Louis Cardinals while on the mound on May 26, was allowed to pitch because of an appeal, according to Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Uribe took over in the bottom of the ninth inning to replace Aaron Ashby. In one inning of work, he struck out one batter while allowing a walk and a hit. By the end of the game, he was awarded the winning decision to make him 3-2 on the season.

Afterward, Uribe talked about his outing and why his preparation was the same despite the external factors of his suspension and appeal.

"No, the mentality today was the same as it is any other day," Uribe said via his translator. "Go to the bullpen, do my routine and prepare myself to be ready for the game."

Given the delicate nature of his current situation, Uribe cannot afford to let his emotions take hold of him while he is contesting a suspension. In addition to his appeal with MLB, Uribe also needs to make sure he does not get in poor standing with manager Pat Murphy, who was displeased by his actions against St. Louis.

"Depending on the situation, I think that's how I always manage myself," Uribe said. "It depends on the situation of the game, how the game is. I always like to enjoy the game, no matter what happens, but sometimes you have to enjoy it a little more. There are some times where I like to have a little bit more fun than others, but I think the game will let you know."

When asked about whether he knows what to expect regarding the length of the appeal process and whether or not he is optimistic about not being suspended, Uribe declined to comment.

For Uribe and his teammates, the situation is not becoming distracting.

"No, we're not paying any attention to that," he said. "We don't want to distract ourselves from what our goal is here. We want to stay focused on the game and on winning games. I think we did a good job of going out there today and showing that."
