The Milwaukee Brewers have added a familiar and well-respected name to their front office, bringing in former Minnesota Twins general manager Thad Levine as a special advisor in baseball operations.
The hire, first reported by MLB.com’s Adam McCalvy, marks Levine’s return to Major League Baseball following a one-year absence after stepping away from the Twins organization at the conclusion of the 2024 season.
While Levine carried the general manager title during his tenure in Minnesota, he functioned primarily as the top deputy to Derek Falvey, the Twins’ president of baseball operations. The two formed a long-standing partnership that oversaw a sustained period of competitiveness for the franchise.
From 2017 through 2023, the Twins reached the postseason four times, capturing three American League Central titles in that span. The organization appeared poised for another playoff run in 2024 before a late-season slide derailed those plans, leaving Minnesota with an 82–80 record and just outside the postseason picture.
Levine’s track record extends well beyond his time with the Twins. Prior to joining Falvey in Minnesota, he spent more than a decade in the Texas Rangers’ front office as an assistant general manager, gaining extensive experience in player development, scouting, and roster construction.
Earlier in his career, he also worked in the Colorado Rockies organization, helping shape baseball operations from behind the scenes. Given that background, there was some speculation this offseason that Colorado might revisit Levine as a potential candidate when the Rockies parted ways with general manager Bill Schmidt, though no serious pursuit ultimately materialized.
In Milwaukee, Levine joins a front office structure that already blends continuity with experience.
President of baseball operations Matt Arnold is supported by assistant general managers Will Hudgins, Matt Kleine, and Karl Mueller, a group that has helped the Brewers remain competitive despite operating with a relatively modest payroll.
Levine will add another veteran voice to that mix, offering perspective shaped by years in both large and mid-market organizations.
The Brewers have increasingly leaned on experienced advisors in recent seasons. Levine joins Doug Melvin and Matt Klentak — both former general managers themselves — who also hold advisory roles within the organization.
That collective experience could prove valuable as Milwaukee balances short-term competitiveness with long-term sustainability, particularly in areas such as pitching development and roster efficiency.
For Levine, the move represents an opportunity to stay closely involved in baseball operations without the day-to-day pressures of running a front office. For the Brewers, it’s a strategic addition that reinforces an already respected baseball operations group with another seasoned executive voice.
