Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Brandon Sproat was a key contributor in his team's latest victory over San Diego Padres.
The Milwaukee Brewers are now winners of five straight games after taking their series opener against the San Diego Padres on Tuesday, 6-4.
Right-hander Brandon Sproat got the starting nod for the Brewers as they welcomed the top team in the National League West Division. He provided 5 ⅓ innings of work with six strikeouts while allowing six hits, three earned runs, and two walks.
After the game, Sproat reacted to the win.
"Good. I mean, that was an all-around team win right there," Sproat told the media. "The offense was incredible tonight. The homer from Joey [Ortiz], that was awesome to see. Just put together good AB's, just passed the torch to the other person. But no, like I said, just all-around great team win."
After the Brewers took an early 1-0 lead thanks to Ortiz’s solo home run in the bottom of the third inning, Sproat allowed the Padres to get on the board and take the lead when he gave up a two-run single to Nick Castellanos in the top of the fourth.
Then, in the bottom of the inning, Milwaukee’s offense hung five runs on the Padres to take a commanding 6-2 lead. That gave Sproat an abundance of breathing room in his return to the mound.
"I mean, it's just, I mean, with the guys like that, they're swinging the bat," Sproat said. "I mean, you know that you're never out of the game, whether you're winning or you're down. I mean, they can put up big innings like they did tonight.
"But I mean, to get them back into the dugout, it's just, ‘hey, go out there and just keep executing pitches,'" Sproat added. "That was just my mindset."
Sproat also touched on the celebration in the dugout for Ortiz after he hit his first home run of the season.
"Yeah, I mean, it's awesome to see one of your boys, I mean, do something like that. I mean, we all pull for each other," Sproat said. "So, when someone hits a homer or scores a run, I mean, we go crazy for each other. I mean, it's awesome to see."
Sproat was also celebrated for his evening in the form of an adult beverage shower.
"Yeah, they did, it was good," he said. "Beer shower. Beer's not so bad. Got my eyes a little bit burned, but my hair kind of felt soft after, so I might have to start using that for shampoo."
After making his sixth start in his second MLB season, Sproat, 25, continues to find ways to improve.
"Just stacking days," he said. "Trusting my stuff, trusting my defense, and just attacking the zone, just be on the attack the whole time. Just go out there and just execute pitches, just take it pitch by pitch. That's really all I can do and all I can control."
