After a strong start to the 2026 MLB season, the Milwaukee Brewers are in a slump, but Brice Turang is not worried.
The Brewers dropped their fifth consecutive game on Sunday in an 8-6 loss to the Washington Nationals. After the game, Turang talked about the loss and provided a message of reassurance.
“We'll respond, we'll figure it out,” Turang told the media. “We got a really good team. When we play our game, we're hard to beat, so we know that. It's just understanding each individual guy to trust each other and trust themselves.”
One of the glaring struggles for the Brewers before Sunday’s loss during the recent skid has been offensive production. In that stretch, Milwaukee hit 15-for-131 at the plate and had totaled just six runs across four straight losses after scoring five-plus runs in eight of their first 10 games.
Sunday demonstrated improvement, however, as the Brewers notched six runs while going 9-for-36 at the plate. Turang believes that Milwaukee’s woes at the plate can partially be attributed to the losing streak, but it is not something that deeply concerns him.
“Yeah, I mean, maybe a little,” Turang said. “Maybe this guy's just trying to force it and not just playing free.
“And so, we'll be fine,” he added. “Like I said, we got a really good group of guys here. And, you know, just got to get some good things rolling and we'll be alright.”
Turang led the offensive charge for the Brewers on Sunday by going 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs and three runs scored while drawing a walk. For Turang to enjoy that success, it comes down to multiple factors.
“Yeah, just playing free, playing aggressive,” Turang said. “Knowing what you can do and trusting yourself and the teammates behind you. Not trying to force the hits, not trying to force the walks or anything like that. Just being confident and going out and playing your game.
"Because everyone's in here for a reason because they're that good,” he added. “And just trusting that.”
When asked how the team can draw experience from adversity it has faced in the past, Turang repeated himself.
“Yeah, I mean, we'll respond. We'll be fine,” he said. “Like I keep saying, we've got a really good group of guys in here who want to win. I promise we want to win. So, we'll be better from this, for sure. This will be a little learning lesson for us, and we'll get better.”
The Brewers will have a chance to get back in the winning column when they host the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday to begin a three-game set.
