Milwaukee Brewers second baseman Brice Turang came through in a big way for his team on Mother's Day.
The Milwaukee Brewers were able to complete the sweep of the New York Yankees on Sunday with a 4-3 win thanks to a walk-off, solo home run by second baseman Brice Turang.
After the game, Turang talked about his clutch moment.
"I mean, I've faced them a good amount of times," Turang told the media. "And I was getting ready for a heater, but I was telling myself, if I see the curveball, I'll make sure I stay back. There's a big speed difference in it, and it's a good one. So, I just want to stay back, and I was ready to hit the heater, and I saw it and took off on it."
Turang's home run came off a curve ball by Yankees reliever David Bednar. Once it dropped into the strike zone, Turang launched it toward center field.
Before his walk-off shot, Turang had struck out in the seventh inning after notching a single in the fifth. When he took the plate with two outs in the ninth, it was his fourth at-bat of the afternoon, and he was prepared.
"I mean, any at-bat against anybody, learning from every pitch or yeah, anything, just you learn or you're just watching and learning from there," Turang said. "So yeah, he's commanding his own early in the count, so I wanted to be aggressive.
"There's many ways to win a game, and tonight was one of them," Turang added. "And the day before that was one of them, and the day before that, you know what I mean? So there's different types of winning games, and that's what matters."
When Turang made contact, he was not sure the baseball would clear the center field wall.
"I knew I hit it well," Turang said. "I didn't think I had it high enough, but I spun it well enough to where it just kept carrying. I was running first, thinking that if it was gonna get over his head, I didn't think that it was gonna get over the wall. So I'm having good backspin on it, I hit it well, so."
Turang’s game-winning home run came off the barrel of a pink bat, which he used to honor his mother for Mother’s Day. When asked what was to become of the bat, Turang revealed his intentions to give it to his mother.
"Yeah, yeah, they marked it and everything, so yeah, why are you giving my secrets away?" Turang said jokingly.
"I mean, Mother's Day, getting a pink bat is pretty cool, actually, that they do that. So the only chance we get to swing a pink bat is Mother's Day."
