Milwaukee Brewers second baseman has taken on a leadership role for the rookie shortstop.

The Milwaukee Brewers outlasted the Cleveland Guardians on Tuesday in what was a low-scoring battle to open the series at American Family Field in Milwaukee, and the Brewers welcomed a new member to their dugout.

Cooper Pratt, a 21-year-old shortstop, the No. 63 prospect in Major League Baseball’s top-100 list, made his MLB debut on Tuesday. For Pratt, it was a momentous day for someone of his age, and teammate Brice Turang and the Brewers tried to keep the atmosphere fun for him.

Turang and his teammates made the choice in the beginning of the game to let Pratt take the field alone in an attempt to settle some nerves.

"Yeah, that was kind of funny," Turang told Adam McCalvy of MLB.com. "That was like a last-minute decision we all kind of made, just like, let him run out and take the field, and then we waited until he looked back kind of like, 'Where's everybody at?’

"So, it was cool," Turang added. "Try to keep it light for him. You know, I know he's thinking about a million things just like everybody on their debuts, so try to keep it light. Remind him that this is a game, it's fun. So, he's excited. He's excited for sure."

Turang, who is still a young player himself but is a young player himself but has much more MLB experience, made sure he was helping Pratt navigate his new, high-level environment.

"Yeah, it's just if he had any questions, or running over the signs again, or anything," Turang said. "Just being there to help him out if he ever had a question or something like that. So you know, you come up here, we have different signs and all that stuff. So, running that over, you know, trying to just tell him to relax and have fun."

In the top of the second inning, Guardians outfielder Steven Kwan hit a groundball to Pratt, which he dumped off to Brice Turang to help aid the double play. According to Turang, it was good for Pratt to make that play.

"Yeah, that helps for sure," Turang said. "Getting it out of the way, getting that first ground ball out of the way, and It's a big thing. You kind of like, you know, you remind yourself, it's still baseball."

For Turang, having Pratt debut at shortstop is a new experience for him from a leadership perspective, as Pratt is the first shortstop that has debuted since he has been a part of the team. However, Turang remains ready to support him and answer questions.
