The Milwaukee Brewers' dominant setup man returns to bolster the bullpen just in time for a high-stakes divisional showdown against the Chicago Cubs.
Set to play the Chicago Cubs seven times in their next 10 games, the Milwaukee Brewers couldn't have asked for a better time for Abner Uribe to return.
The 26-year-old went on the Injured List in early August, but did so when he was looking absolutely unstoppable.
Uribe has 18 holds and six saves this season to go along with his 2.05 ERA. Keep in mind, he hasn't allowed a run since Friday, June 19, having thrown 21.2 consecutive scoreless innings dating back to June 20.
The corresponding move will see Bryse Wilson, someone who's been rock solid in the bullpen, head to the 15-day IL due to a low back strain.
Uribe came back at the perfect time
Trevor Megill has done a fantastic job as this team's closer, but there's arguably no better set up man in all of baseball.
Uribe has appeared in 49 games this year and has a strong 4-2 record to go along with his dominant 1.03 WHIP. He's a 1.9 WAR player which echoes the success he had last year when that number was 2.7 in the 75 games he appeared in.
The Dominican Republic native looked tremendous during his two rehab appearances at High-A, so now, all eyes are on his return to the big leagues.
Uribe is set to rejoin the Brewers bullpen ahead of a four-game slate at Wrigley Field, the same place the National League Central-leading Brewers swept the Cubs earlier this season.
When facing the Cubs, Uribe has had great success against them. This season alone, he's thrown 3.2 scoreless innings in three appearances, having only allowed one hit.
Most importantly, Uribe picked up the save in Game 5 of the National League Division Series which sent the Brewers to their fourth NLCS in franchise history.
Obviously things didn't go their way a year ago, but Uribe now has a chance to help rewrite history as the Brewers have the best record in all of baseball and are looking for that top seed in back-to-back seasons.
Losing Wilson will hurt this Brewers bullpen
Take nothing away from Uribe's return, but having Wilson go on the IL is a huge loss. The Brewers haven't exactly been kind to him this season as he's been around the block, but they finally put their foot down and have welcomed Wilson into the bullpen for the remainder of the year.
In his 12 appearances with the Brewers here in 2026, Wilson is a 0.4 WAR player with a beautiful 2.55 ERA, one that is nowhere near his career number of 4.74.
