The Milwaukee backstop powered a dominant offensive surge against Chicago, crushing a two-run blast to secure triple digits and cement his status as the roster's premier power threat.
A major milestone was reached as the Milwaukee Brewers once again took care of business against the Chicago Cubs.
As part of the Brewers' 8-6 victory, William Contreras was one of three players to hit a home run.
The best team in all of baseball doesn’t often rely on the home run ball, but when they do, it changes everything.
Contreras hit a two-run homer in the second inning, an inning that saw both him and Jackson Chourio go deep.
One inning prior, Christian Yelich hit a three-run blast that put the Brewers ahead 3-0. By the time Chourio and Contreras got their licks in, it was 7-0 Brewers.
Contreras’ blast was a special one as it marked the catcher’s 100th career home run, coming in his seventh year in the league.
Brewers continue to get the best out of Contreras
He may not always win his challenges, either as a catcher or a hitter, but Contreras has undeniable power that makes this team better.
Contreras leads the team in hits and is coming off a night where he went 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs, two runs, and a walk.
This marks the Venezuela native's second home run in his last four games, so it’s not like he had to wait long to hit triple digits.
Contreras now has 15 home runs this season and is two shy of the 17 he hit a year ago. The 28-year-old has been with the Brewers since 2023, and it’s worth noting that 72 of his career homers have come during his time in Milwaukee.
Back in 2024, Contreras set his career high of 23 home runs in a single season. He’s hit 20+ on two occasions, but that would be a tall ask for him to reach that number with only 15 games left in the regular season.
That said, if the Brewers are going to make a deep run, Contreras’s power is going to be a huge part of that. He’s not only one of the best defensive catchers in the league, but he brings difference-making power to the plate anytime he steps up to bat.
Manager Pat Murphy’s catching combo has a combined 300 career homers, a number that has been amplified with Gary Sanchez reaching the 200 mark earlier this year.
Together, that sort of power can’t be replicated, so it’s imperative that the Brewers get the most out of Contreras while he’s still with the team.
