The Milwaukee Brewers are close to inking top prospect Cooper Pratt to a contract extension

The Milwaukee Brewers are setting themselves up for the future.

According to MLB.com, the Brewers claimed the top spot as having the No. 1-ranked farm system in the league. They have eight prospects that found themselves in the Top 100, including the No. 2-ranked Cooper Pratt.

Pratt, 21, is the No. 62-ranked prospect in all of MLB. According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Brewers are "on the verge" of finalizing a contract extension with their top prospect.

Nightengale reports that that the deal is for eight years and worth roughly $50 million with two club options.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post later confirmed that the deal would be worth $50.75 million. This deal locks up Pratt wearing a Milwukee uniform for the next 10 years.

Pratt has not appeared in an MLB game yet in his career but posted a slash line of .238/.343/.348 with eight home runs in 120 games at Double-A Biloxi.

He is beginning this season with the Triple-A Nashville Sounds. In 15 at-bats with the Sounds, he has recorded four hits, one RBI, and a batting average of .267.

Milwaukee drafted him out of high school in the sixth round of the 2023 MLB draft and made his second Spring camp in 2026.

He played in 18 Spring Training games for Milwaukee and slashed .294/.405/.294.

“I want to say I’m really confident, but it’s all God’s plan," Pratt told Adam McCalvy of MLB.com. "I feel like I can play in the big leagues, so when that time comes, I’ll be ready.”

This is not the first time the Brewers have locked up their young talent for the long haul. Their most recent contract extension involved Jackson Chourio, who also signed an eight-year, $82 million contract back in 2023.

With near back-to-back contdact extensions to highly toutted prospects before they even step foot onto an MLB field, the Brewers plans remain on point. They view their future brightly, and reward those that they know could help them win.

Pratt already brings an MLB-level glove at shortstop down in the minors and if history tells us anything, he could be the next breakout star for Milwaukee alongside Chourio.
