Fresh off three shutout innings, the right-hander finds himself off the roster as the Milwaukee Brewers promote Lyon Richardson to navigate a grueling schedule.
The Milwaukee Brewers announced a surprising roster move ahead of their game on Saturday, Aug. 8.
After coming in and delivering three strong innings the night prior, right-handed pitcher Bryse Wilson has been designated for assignment.
As it's always important to note, baseball is a business. For whatever reason, the Brewers believed this was the right move to make, and there's always a chance he clears waivers and returns to the organization.
That said, Wilson definitely proved he has a spot in the majors. Despite not having pitched at all in the month of August up until last night, he kept the Brewers in a hitter-friendly game, one that saw Shane Drohan and Antonio Senzatela allow eight earned runs in the first six innings.
As for Wilson, he threw three shutout innings, but Milwaukee's offense failed to get any runs across in the final four innings. Now, it'll be Lyon Richardson taking his place as the righty was selected from Triple-A Nashville.
Richardson is the Brewers' 32nd pitcher on the active roster this season
For reference, the Brewers had 32 pitchers appear on the active roster the entire 2025 season. Injuries have plagued this team, and there have been plenty of instances where a pitcher like Brandon Sproat struggles and leaves manager Pat Murphy no choice but to demote him.
When it came to Wilson, the 28-year-old has already played for three teams this season. He had a strong 2.63 ERA in his six appearances with the Brewers, and overall, he's a 0.1 WAR player in 2026.
Now, though, all eyes are on Richardson. The Cincinnati Reds selected him in the second round back in 2018, and he's trending to pitch on a team not named the Reds for the first time in his career.
Of his 41 big league appearances, 34 of those came in 2025. Last year he was 0-3 with a 4.54 ERA, but that was his career low, by far, which says a lot since he hasn't pitched in more than four games in any of his other three seasons.
Here in 2026, Richardson is 0-1 with a 27.00 ERA. Obviously, that can be taken with a grain of salt as it's only in a 1.2-inning sample size.
Richardson will join the Brewers bullpen as they patiently await the season debut of recently acquired left-handed reliever JoJo Romero. For now, it'll be interesting to see if Richardson can give them some solid innings as they continue a stretch of 17 games in 17 days.
