With David Hamilton sidelined by a hamstring injury, switch-hitting phenom Luis Lara brings elite speed and a surging .902 OPS from Triple-A to the Milwaukee Brewers roster.
Fresh off an injury to David Hamilton, the Milwaukee Brewers are expected to call up outfielder Luis Lara.
Lara, 21, followed suit with infielder Cooper Pratt as Lara signed a seven-year, $31 million deal last month.
The Brewers are expected to call up Lara ahead of today's double-header, according to Daniel Alvarez-Montes, who covers Venezuelans in MLB for El Extra Base.
Lara has spent the entire 2026 season in Triple-A Nashville. In 78 games, he's slashing .321/.432/.470 with a career high .902 OPS.

Milwaukee has gone the high-risk, high-reward route with Jackson Chourio, Pratt, and now Lara. The team loves what they see out of the Venezuelan as he's now set to join the likes of Chourio and William Contreras in the big leagues.
Lara stands 5-foot-7 and is a base-stealing threat, to say the least. Dating back to when he first started playing in the minors in 2022, he's accumulated 150 stolen bases, 24 of which have come in 2026.
The switch-hitter gives the Brewers plenty of options at the plate, and he's on pace for a career year. There's arguably no better time to call up Lara than now, and it's expected he'll be part of the roster move that could see Hamilton land on the Injured List.
Obviously, teams get an extra player for double-headers, but that tends to be a pitcher more often than not. Again, no official move has been announced, but Lara is indeed set to be called up on Tuesday, July 7, according to Alvarez-Montes.
David Hamilton's Injury
Hamilton helped the Brewers rally in the seventh inning last night, but hamstring tightness could keep him out for awhile. Milwaukee has yet to reveal the extent of his injury, or if there even is one, but the team quickly revealed an IL stint would be likely for the 28-year-old.
"As hamstrings go, they usually take a little time. I am anticipating it's going to take a little bit of time," manager Pat Murphy said after the win, according to Fox Sports' Hunter Baumgardt.
Adam McCalvy of MLB.com added, "Sorry to pump the brakes, but Luis Lara is not a big leaguer just yet, I’m told. The Brewers are awaiting the result of an early-morning MRI for David Hamilton, and that will dictate the move(s) today. Several players in motion this morning, it sounds like."
There's plenty of anticipation that Lara will indeed be on his way to the majors, but at the time of writing, there's no confirmation from anyone within the Brewers organization.
