Even in a narrow defeat, losing to the Washington Nationals 3-2, the Milwaukee Brewers walked away with a major positive: Logan Henderson looks ready to contribute.
Making just his second start of the season after being recalled from Triple-A, Henderson turned in a poised and effective outing. The right-hander carried a perfect game through four innings and showcased sharp command throughout his six frames of work.
He allowed only two runs on three hits, did not issue a walk, and struck out eight hitters, including the final three batters he faced.
For a Brewers club looking to solidify its rotation depth, Henderson’s performance offered a glimpse of stability. His ability to pound the zone and generate swings and misses stood out, even if the final result didn’t reflect his effort.
Limited Offense Proves Costly
Milwaukee’s lineup generated chances but struggled to deliver the big hit when it mattered most. The Brewers broke through in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly from Joey Ortiz, manufacturing an early 1-0 lead.
They threatened again late, putting together a rally in the ninth inning. A pair of singles and aggressive baserunning helped push across a run, cutting the deficit to one and bringing the tying run into scoring position. However, the comeback stalled there, as Milwaukee couldn’t find the final hit to extend the game.
Overall, the Brewers were able to put traffic on the bases but lacked the timely execution needed to capitalize fully.
Bullpen Holds, But Margin Too Thin
The Brewers’ pitching staff, anchored by Henderson’s strong start, kept the game within reach throughout. The bullpen did its job in limiting further damage and giving the offense a chance to respond late.
Still, with such a slim margin, even a small offensive gap proved decisive. Milwaukee’s pitchers combined to deliver a performance that would win on most days, but without sufficient run support, the effort went unrewarded.
Carrying Momentum Forward
Despite falling just short of a sweep, Milwaukee still takes plenty of positives from the series. The team continues to show consistency on the mound, and Henderson’s emergence adds another intriguing option to the rotation mix.
As the Brewers head into their next matchup, the focus will likely center on converting scoring opportunities and maintaining the strong pitching foundation that has kept them competitive.
