The veteran right-hander returns to the Milwaukee Brewers after a whirlwind season, seeking to rediscover the dominant relief form that powered his career-best 2023 campaign.

In a move no one expected to be made this season, the Milwaukee Brewers have come to terms on an agreement to bring back pitcher Bryse Wilson.

Foul Territory's Robert Murray broke the news the morning of Friday, July 10.

Wilson has turned into a bit of a journeyman as he's set to play on his third team here in 2026.

Previously, Wilson had pitched for the Brewers in 2023 and 2024. Since then, he's bounced around to three different teams.

The 28-year-old righty has pitched for six different teams in his storied career. Coincidentally, three of those six have been in the National League Central.

Wilson returns to Milwaukee

While his numbers aren't what they once were, it's important to look back on what the Brewers were able to do with Wilson in 2023-24.

Upon his debut with the club in 2023, Wilson appeared in a career-high 53 games. That number is worth noting as previously his career high was 25, however, he started 20 of the 25 games he pitched in during the 2022 season.

Wilson was a perfect 6-0 in '23 with all 53 of his appearances being in relief. He sported a career high 1.5 WAR, to no surprise, and that was coming off a -1.1 WAR season.

His 2023 ERA sat at 2.58, another career mark for the North Carolina native. A year later, he started nine of the 34 games he pitched in for the Brewers. He went from 76.2 innings to 104.2 innings.

For just the second time in his career, Wilson had thrown more than 100.0 innings. His ERA rose to 4.04 in '24, but that's to be expected knowing he started nearly double-digit games for the first time in two years.

Wilson's Hectic 2026 Season

The Philadelphia Phillies brought Wilson in on a minor-league deal to start the 2026 season. After appearing in just one game for the team, he moved onto the Chicago Cubs. Things didn't exactly work out in Chicago either as he pitched in just two games.

Currently, Wilson has a 6.52 ERA in 2026. It's worth noting that comes in just three games played which turned out to be 9.2 innings.

Wilson got picked apart as he gave up seven earned runs on eight hits in a 3.1-inning outing on Friday, July 3. Remember though, that came in a game where the Cubs lost, 17-1, so it's not like that game holds a ton of merit.

Just a few days prior, he pitched 4.1 scoreless innings against the Brewers in an outing that saw him strike out four batters and allow just four hits.
