The 22-year-old phenom is shattering records and expectations alike, proving the Milwaukee Brewers' historic $82 million gamble was a masterstroke as his surging power transforms the franchise’s long-term future.
The Milwaukee Brewers' high-risk, high-reward approach to big-league contracts paid off big time with 22-year-old phenom Jackson Chourio.
Chourio signed a gigantic eight-year, $82 million contract to remain with Milwaukee for the long haul, despite not having a single second of major league service time.
To no surprise, that was the largest in MLB history, but it's one that seemingly has paid for itself already.
Chourio crushed another homer in the Brewers' latest win, and he's doing so at a rapid rate after his slow start, one that was delayed due to an injury sustained in the World Baseball Classic.
$82M is a Steal
In this economy, there's nothing quite like signing a player like Chourio through 2031. The former Brewers top prospect will make up to $17 million in a single season by 2031, but even that will likely be considered one of the best contracts in baseball history.
Granted, that's still years away so who knows how Chourio will look by then, but it's not like he's peaked yet, far from it.
Not only that, but this contract includes a pair of club options in 2032 and 2033. If Milwaukee isn't ready to move on from Chourio, a kid who won't even be 30 years old until 2032, they can keep him around as part of a $25 million club option in those two seasons.
Overall, there are incentives and ways Chourio could make up to $142.5 million over 10 years, but even that is nothing compared to what some of these former Brewers players, Corbin Burnes and Willy Adames included, have gone on to make.
Chourio is Red-Hot
Fresh off being named Co-National League Player of the Week alongside teammate Jacob Misiorowski, the righty sports a .314 batting average and is in the midst of one of the top power surges of his young career.
Chourio went yard once again on Wednesday, June 17, marking his sixth home run since Tuesday, June 9. No, that's not a typo. Chourio has homered in five of his last seven games, including a two-home-run game on Saturday, June 13.
The Venezuelan native racked up 500-plus at-bats in both 2024 and 2025, but there's no arguing this could easily be his most productive season, by far.
His slash line sits at .314/.364/.572 in 159 at-bats this season. If those stay in that general range, all three would be career highs. Not only that, but his OPS sits at .936, far higher than his career high of .791 back in 2024.
