Milwaukee Brewers ace Jacob Misiorowski needs to take some time to rest his arm.

The Milwaukee Brewers are putting All-Star right-hander Jacob Misiorowski on the proverbial shelf until after the All-Star break.

Misiorowski, who was scheduled to pitch in Sunday’s series finale against the Pittsburgh Pirates, will no longer take the mound due to arm fatigue, according to Hunter Baumgardt of Fox Sports 920. Misiorowski is also set to miss the All-Star Game, which is taking place on July 14 at 8 p.m. ET at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.

Misiorowski’s absence on Sunday disrupts a high-leverage matchup with Pirates ace Paul Skenes. However, according to Brewers manager Pat Murphy, Misiorowski did not rebound from his July 7 start against the St. Louis Cardinals in which he pitched seven innings and struck out 11 batters.

"He didn’t recover well from his last start and we owe it to him to take a little more time," Murphy told Baumgardt. "Just didn’t recover well. His arm doesn’t feel great, his body doesn’t feel great. There’s no imaging or none of that stuff going on, we’re just giving him a rest and he needs some time away from throwing.

"He’s had a big load, and we’re making that decision to give him a break," Murphy added. "Because his throwing program today was a little clunky and we just didn’t like what we saw, and we’re going to hold him out."

The Brewers have dealt with a litany of injuries to their pitching staff, so risking the health of their ace is hardly worth it. As of Saturday, Milwaukee has 10 pitchers on its Injured List, two of whom are Kyle Harrison and Brandon Woodruff.

Harrison was placed on the 15-day IL on Saturday with left forearm tightness, and his placement was retroactive to July 9. According to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com, Harrison’s stint on the IL does not necessarily need to be viewed as a setback because the Brewers were planning extended rest for him through the All-Star break.

Before it was announced that Misiorowski would miss Sunday’s start, McCalvy guessed that the organization would take a similar approach with the 24-year-old flamethrower.

In his second season, Misiorowski has been a dominant force. In 18 starts, he possesses a 10-4 record with a 1.62 ERA and a 0.76 WHIP. In 111 total innings of work, Misiorowski has delivered 167 strikeouts, the most in baseball by a margin of 19.

Additionally, his ERA and WHIP are also No. 1, and he has the best opponent batting average in the sport (.148). Because of Misiorowski’s gravity and impact, the Brewers are making the right call by exercising caution with him.
