Former MLB star and current FOX Sports analyst Dontrelle Willis urges Milwaukee Brewers to trade for Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal.

The Milwaukee Brewers continue to position themselves as one of the National League’s strongest teams.

After a dominant 16-2 win over the San Francisco Giants pushed Milwaukee to 36-21, attention is beginning to shift from division success to a larger question: Can this roster turn regular season consistency into a World Series title?

Former major leaguer and current FOX Sports analyst Dontrelle Willis believes there is one move that could significantly raise that ceiling.

During FS1’s postgame coverage of Monday’s game against the Giants, Willis suggested Milwaukee should pursue Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal, pointing to his ability to perform in high-pressure environments and neutralize elite offenses on the road against postseason-caliber teams.

“I would love to see them get Skubal,” Willis said. “Because he has the big-game experience and he can go on the road and shut the opposing team’s offense down. Whether it’s the Dodgers, Braves, or anybody else.”

Milwaukee has consistently placed itself in contention.

Since 2018, the Brewers have reached the postseason seven times and have remained one of baseball’s most stable organizations despite operating without the financial flexibility of some larger-market clubs.

Last season marked their deepest run during that stretch.

Milwaukee advanced to the National League Championship Series before being eliminated in four games by the eventual World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers.

Adding Skubal would represent an aggressive shift in approach.

A move of that magnitude would almost certainly require Milwaukee to part with premium prospect capital while absorbing a significant financial commitment.

Detroit would likely demand a substantial package.

While it would be difficult to imagine the Brewers including consensus top prospect Jesus Made in negotiations, a framework involving controllable starter Logan Henderson and MLB Pipeline’s No. 19 prospect Luis Pena could create the foundation for a conversation.

Willis framed the situation as an opportunity for Milwaukee to finally push beyond years of postseason disappointment and make the type of move that signals championship intent.

Willis also compared the scenario to the franchise’s trade for CC Sabathia almost 18 years ago.

Sabathia transformed Milwaukee’s rotation after arriving, posting an 11-2 record with a 1.65 ERA and 128 strikeouts in 130.2 innings over 17 starts, helping carry the Brewers to a Wild Card berth before they lost to the eventual champion Philadelphia Phillies in the Division Series.

Milwaukee’s current rotation already features significant upside.

Jacob Misiorowski has developed into one of baseball’s premier pitchers and followed a historic May by allowing only one run across 38.1 innings with 57 strikeouts.

The Brewers have also seen a major breakthrough from Kyle Harrison.

The left-hander has posted a 1.57 ERA and 1.03 WHIP with 61 strikeouts in 51.2 innings over his first 10 starts and has quickly become another major factor in the rotation.

Adding Skubal to that group would create a front-end trio capable of matching any team in baseball.

That type of top-end pitching becomes increasingly valuable in the postseason.

Milwaukee’s motivation could also extend beyond pure upside.

There are still questions surrounding the rest of the rotation.

Quinn Priester continues working through his recovery from thoracic outlet syndrome while attempting to avoid surgery. Brandon Woodruff has dealt with recurring right shoulder concerns and remains on the injured list.

Coleman Crow and Brandon Sproat are currently occupying rotation spots, while Shane Drohan has recently been stretched out after joining the rotation mix.

With uncertainty behind its top starters, Milwaukee could view one major addition as the cleanest way to stabilize the group.

That is why Skubal continues to stand out as a name worth watching.
