Following a string of disastrous road starts and shrinking longevity, Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy weighs transitioning Kyle Harrison to the bullpen.

In a move that should come as no surprise, the Milwaukee Brewers are considering moving Kyle Harrison to the bullpen.

His last few starts have been abysmal and have cost the team games, even if that hasn't always been reflected in his win-loss record.

Harrison had an inflated 5.01 ERA in the month of August, mostly due to the nine earned runs he allowed against the Chicago Cubs on Monday, Aug. 31.

On Sunday, Sept. 6, he just allowed six more runs, though only four of those were earned.

Regardless, he hasn't thrown more than 5.0 innings since Saturday, June 20, and that isn't going to fly in this starting rotation.

The Brewers bullpen is as gassed as it gets, but now, they could have a new arm joining them.

Pat Murphy discusses removing Harrison from the starting rotation

"Maybe he [Harrison] won't start, maybe he'll end up being in the middle of the game or something like that,” manager Pat Murphy said after the team's 12-8 loss, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Curt Hogg.

Murphy added, "I’m sure it will lean to some type of adjustment in terms of maybe he won’t start. Maybe he’ll end up being in the middle of the game…it’s probably back him off a little bit."

Harrison has now allowed 14 earned runs in his last three starts, all of which have come on the road.

For reference, he allowed just two earned runs in his last three starts at American Family Field, which dates back to Saturday, June 27, in a game that saw him allow both of those against the Cubs.

Harrison had scoreless home starts on Wednesday, Aug. 5, and Tuesday, Aug. 18, and he went exactly 5.0 innings in both of those.

If starting him exclusively for home games would be an option, that's the easy route to take. This is a Brewers team that has gone with a six-man rotation for quite some time, so now it's just about syncing his next start to when the Brewers are back at AmFam.

Ultimately though, it's not that easy. In order to keep Harrison fresh and keep everyone on a normal schedule, moving him to the bullpen, similar to what they did with Aaron Ashby and Chad Patrick, feels like the best route to have him get back on track.

Murphy didn't announce a clear decision one way or another, but it's obvious the Brewers not only would love to have Harrison in the starting rotation, but they seemingly need him to be in it if they want to make a deep run in the postseason.
