The Milwaukee Brewers clubhouse remains focused on internal growth after refusing to meet the Detroit Tigers asking price for Tarik Skubal.
The Milwaukee Brewers were always in on the conversation to make a deal with the Detroit Tigers, but that sadly never came to fruition.
Instead, the Los Angeles Dodgers traded a trio of top 20 prospects in their organization, but it's a deal that many believe the Brewers could have topped.
Ultimately, three months of Tarik Skubal wasn't worth moving on from Logan Henderson and Luis Pena.
Pena was on the chopping block, no doubt, especially since this team has the No. 1 prospect in all of baseball, Jesus Made.
That said, Milwaukee couldn't make the big splash this fanbase wanted. Fresh off another series victory, manager Pat Murphy and closer Trevor Megill discussed the blockbuster trade.

"I don’t think anybody is surprised he went there,” Megill said, according to MLB.com's Adam McCalvy. “When they came out the other day and said they were going to be greedy, I think the whole world can take that seriously, and that they would probably make that happen."
The Brewers' closer continued, "The [clubhouse] talk, we just joke around with mock trades here and there, but it’s our job to play baseball with the team they give us and the guys in this room.”
Brewers manager chimes in
"I can’t worry about what the Dodgers do,” Murphy said. “They’ve got a great organization, won back-to-back World Series, and they’re trying to do everything they can to compete at the end. I can’t worry about that. I need to worry about what we’ve got to do.”
He added, "I trust our front office, and it does feel like there’s a clear message out there that we’re not going to be passive in this thing. We’re going to be aggressive. But it still has to make sense. It still has to be responsible.”
McCalvy noted that Murphy would then go on to say, "Hopefully not too responsible."
Dodgers fleeced the Tigers
For whatever reason, Detroit didn't want to wait until Monday to make a trade. If they truly thought LA's offer was the best they were going to get, then all everyone can do is move on.
The Brewers seem to be on a collision course with the Dodgers, one that could include another matchup in the National League Championship Series. After getting swept last year, this fanbase would love to see an active team at the deadline so they're able to compete with a Dodgers starting rotation that could go down as one of the best in MLB history.
Moving forward, the Brewers must focus on themselves and what they can do to get better. This Skubal trade is in the past, so now it's all about how Milwaukee can improve itself in the next 48 hours.
