Recurring shoulder inflammation forces the Milwaukee Brewers veteran back to the shelf, opening the door for reliever Drew Rom to stabilize a thinning staff as the rotation awaits reinforcements.
In an expected move, the Milwaukee Brewers once again had to place right-handed pitcher Brandon Woodruff on the 15-day Injured List.
Woodruff re-aggravated his right shoulder with inflammation being the reason for his IL placement.
In the corresponding move, left-handed pitcher Drew Rom is once again being recalled from Triple-A Nashville.
Rom is not a starter, but Milwaukee is nearing the return of both Coleman Crow and Kyle Harrison. The Brewers would love to have those two back for the second half of the season, but for now, they can only take things one day at a time.
Only 15-Day Injured List
If there's anything positive to come out of this, it's the fact that the Brewers are only placing Big Woo on the 15-day IL. Things could've gone much worse, but for now, they're opting to go with the short option.
Should Woodruff return (again) this season, the team will have to be extremely careful with how they operate. Woodruff's velocity fell in a massive way this last start which led to him being pulled before completing four full innings.
It was a situation that felt far too similar to what put him on the IL in the first place. Now, all the team can do is await further medical evaluation.
Welcome Back, Drew Rom
Rom, 26, has pitched in four games for the Brewers this season. He's clearly on the bottom of the pecking order, but at this point they don't really have any other options.
The lefty made his big-league debut in 2023 but didn't pitch in the majors in either 2024 or 2025. Now, the Brewers are giving him a chance to prove everyone wrong.
Through his four appearances in 2026, he has a 0.1 WAR to go along with a respectable 3.38 ERA. Remember, when he played for the St. Louis Cardinals in 2023, he started all eight games he played in and went 1-4 with an 8.02 ERA and 2.08 WHIP.
For reference, Jacob Misiorowski carries a 0.78 WHIP through 17 starts here in 2026. That's like comparing apples to oranges, but still puts things into perspective.
Rom last pitched for the Brewers on Thursday, June 18. All four of his appearances came in the month of June, and his most recent was one of two that saw him pitch a scoreless frame. Rom has pitched at least 1.0 inning in all four of his outings, but has yet to record more than five outs in a relief appearance.
