Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy has been dealing with debilitating pain.

After losing two out of three games on the road to the Athletics, the Milwaukee Brewers bounced back by winning two of three games against the Philadelphia Phillies at American Family Field in Milwaukee over the weekend.

The series included two shutout wins by the Brewers in which they outscored the Phillies by a combined score of 10-0.

Most notably, the series opened with a gem by Jacob Misiorowski in which he threw a complete game and struck out 15 batters while allowing just one hit and also threw the fastest pitch by a starting pitcher in Major League Baseball history.

The whole time, manager Pat Murphy was in Milwaukee’s dugout, doing his job at a high level despite debilitating hip and back pain, according to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com.

After Sunday’s 4-0 win over the Phillies, Murphy talked with McCalvy and other members of the media about the pain he has been dealing with and the Brewers’ win.

"Yeah, a lot of medication for me," Murphy said. "No, no, truly, I'm happy for the guys, that's what it's about. I'm happy for the guys to be in a battle like this against the team built for the World Series.

"And that type of pitching," he added. "That's what this whole thing's about, is to try to be in these environments as much as you can and keep your poise and hopefully win a couple of them."

Murphy, 67, said he was feeling great, but an air of joking and sarcasm could be felt in his response. Additionally, he is not looking forward to some aspects of Milwaukee’s off day on Monday before hosting the Cleveland Guardians on Tuesday.

"No, no, you don’t know my off days," Murphy said with a chuckle. "MRIs and shots and all that kind of stuff. So my off day, I get to be with my kids, and that's No. 1. So yeah, don't worry about me, it ain't about me, so we'll get through it."

Murphy also praised Kyle Harrison, who provided six scoreless innings for the Brewers.

"Yeah, I mean, he was really good," Murphy said. "He's confident, this is a really good lineup. But he didn't have his best stuff today. I think you guys noticed early, he didn't have his best stuff. His best innings were five and six, but he was on point and didn't give up free bases.

"Yeah, so we need it from him," Murphy added. "He's starting to understand the standard, and he's doing a great job with it."
