The Milwaukee Brewers southpaw’s breakout season hits a snag as elbow soreness sidelines him indefinitely, forcing the rotation to lean on Robert Gasser amidst a mounting injury crisis.
In a move that has been building for his last two starts, left-handed pitcher Kyle Harrison is officially going on the 15-day Injured List.
The Milwaukee Brewers acquired Harrison from the Boston Red Sox in a massive trade this offseason, and he's given them some incredible innings, up to this point.
Harrison's last two starts have been fine, but nothing special like Brewers fans got used to seeing out of the 24-year-old.
Ultimately, Harrison revealed he's been dealing with soreness on the outside of his elbow, and the team officially put him on the IL, retroactive to July 9, due to left forearm tightness.
Harrison heads to the IL
Just days after getting Logan Henderson back, the Brewers are stuck losing another starting pitcher. Between Brandon Woodruff and Quinn Priester, this starting rotation is nowhere near where the Brewers expected it to be at the All-Star break.
It's not like Harrison was scheduled to make another start in the first half of the season, but it's still brutal to see him sidelined after how well he was pitching.
Even after his last two starts, Harrison still sports a stellar 8-2 record with an ERA that sits at 3.01. His 1.08 WHIP is unbelievable, and he clocks in at a fantastic 2.5 WAR. Previously, Harrison never had a WAR above 0.6.
In 83.2 innings pitched, Harrison has an unbelievable 5.1 K/BB ratio. His 17 starts are seven shy of tying the career high he set in 2024. For reference, he was 7-7 that year with a 4.56 ERA and 1.34 WHIP. All of his numbers are down, drastically, and the last thing the Brewers wanted to see was something hold him back.
Welcome back, Robert Gasser
To no surprise, Gasser has once again been elevated to the Brewers roster. The fellow lefty was recalled from Triple-A Nashville, a place he didn't have to spend much time in.
Gasser gave the team an unbelievable 7.2 innings on Tuesday, July 7, in the second game of a doubleheader. The Brewers grueling stretch is nearly over, but now they have to endure another doubleheader before Jacob Misiorowski takes on Pittsburgh Pirates' ace Paul Skenes in the first-half finale.
The 27-year-old returns to the big leagues with his 2-3 record and 4.15 ERA. After a rough start to the 2026 season, Gasser has really settled in and has given this team plenty to be thrilled with the All-Star break right around the corner.
