The Milwaukee Brewers will lean on Brandon Sproat, Logan Henderson, and Shane Drohan to stabilize the rotation as they open a critical post-break road trip at Oracle Park.
The Milwaukee Brewers dropped the first game of a three-game slate to the Colorado Rockies, but they know Jacob Misirowoski has yet to pitch in the series.
Thankfully for the San Francisco Giants, the struggling National League West team knows they won't have to face the potential Cy Young frontrunner.
Instead, the Giants are scheduled to face right-handed pitchers Brandon Sproat and Logan Henderson along with lefty Shane Drohan in the series finale.
Milwaukee heads to Oracle Park for a three-game series from July 27-29 in what will be their first games away from home after the All-Star break.
Brewers need more out of Sproat
The Brewers simply need more out of the former New York Mets pitcher. He picked up his fifth loss of the year against his former team, on Tuesday, July 21.
Sproat went 4.2 innings in that game, a number that was somehow an improvement on each of his last two starts. That said, he once again allowed a pair of runs, marking the third time in his last four starts that he's done so.
The 25-year-old has just 11 strikeouts in 11.2 innings pitched during the month of July. To put things into perspective, he's allowed 11 hits, including a pair of homers, en route to a solid, but not spectacular 3.86 ERA.
Henderson eyes fifth win
Currently sitting at 4-1 with a 3.05 ERA, Henderson could go back-to-back games with a win. After starting the year 0-1, he managed to pick up three consecutive wins, though there was quite a gap in-between his starts on May 22 and July 9.
Either way, Henderson has been one of this team's bright spots in the rotation. He's incredibly consistent, having gone at least 5.0 innings in his last seven starts. The 24-year-old has allowed three home runs in his last two starts, so that's definitely something to monitor, but he's coming off a nine strikeout game against the Mets.
Lone lefty starter is Drohan
The Giants have yet to reveal who they'll be starting in this series, but as long as everything goes according to plan, Drohan will be the lone lefty starter the Brewers throw their way.
Drohan came back out for the seventh inning on Friday, July 24, but was only allowed to face one batter. Knowing he gave up five earned runs, it's incredible to think he even got through six innings in that game. He's 2-2 in his last four starts, and similar to Sproat, consistency has been a bit of an issue, but at least the left-handed starter has been able to go deeper into games far more often.
