The Milwaukee Brewers have built an exceptional roster.

For weeks now, the Milwaukee Brewers have been the best team in Major League Baseball. Recently, they also became the first team to reach 90 wins this season.

Alongside currently owning the best record in the sport, the Brewers find themselves near the top of another list, too.

Recently, ESPN MLB Insider Kiley McDaniel put together his annual rankings based on the star power each team possesses. In these rankings, McDaniel considers the talent on rosters that is under contract for the next two full seasons, and he identifies the strength of each roster based on three subcategories: elite, plus, and solid talent.

Where did the Brewers land?

Milwaukee came in second on McDaniel's list behind the Los Angeles Dodgers, and it was a tremendous jump from previous seasons.

In each of the last four years, the Brewers have finished outside the top 10 in McDaniel’s rankings. In 2023, they fell to 21 after coming in at No. 12 the season before.

What makes it more impressive is that Milwaukee got to this point with homegrown talent. In the elite category, right-hander Jacob Misiorowski stands alone, and in the plus category, Brice Turang, Jackson Chourio and Garrett Mitchell occupy the space.

In the solid category, there is more than just players on the MLB roster; there are prospects, too. McDaniel summarizes the Brewers’ situation perfectly by writing that at one time, everyone wanted to be the Dodgers; now everyone wants to be the Brewers.

A bright future

Milwaukee has set the standard for what other small-market organizations should strive to be. Its front office has stockpiled talent at such an elite pace that the major-league roster is set with talent well into the future, while players with a ton of potential continue to develop in the minors.

The Dodgers having the No. 1 group on this list is not a surprise. As long as Shohei Ohtani and other expensive veterans are on the roster and producing at a high level, they will be in the realm of being the best.

However, Los Angeles’ group of seasoned stars is beginning to show the cracks that Father Time implements. Meanwhile, the Brewers are set with high-level players for the remainder of the decade and beyond, as multiple roster pieces are under contract for years to come.

Last season, Milwaukee landed 13th on McDaniel’s list, and it still finished with the best record in baseball. Now, the Brewers are on their way to capturing that accolade again after an exponential leap in star-power rankings, and the sky is the limit.
