The Milwaukee Brewers' whirlwind roster reshuffle sent Codi Heuer to the Baltimore Orioles for cash just 48 hours after his arrival.
In an interesting move that took place at the trade deadline buzzer, the Milwaukee Brewers traded right-handed pitcher Codi Heuer, according to Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Curt Hogg.
It wasn't too long ago when Heuer was part of a two-for-two swap between the Brewers and the Cleveland Guardians.
Now, he's set to head to the Baltimore Orioles.
What did the Brewers get in return? Basically nothing. This trade was done for cash considerations, but it was more of an effort to clear up room on the roster now that they acquired three pitchers today.
Shortly after they traded Heuer, they announced they'd be designating Carlos Rodriguez for assignment, according to MLB.com's Adam McCalvy.
Now, the roster is complete, and Milwaukee can move forward on their quest to once again finish with the best record in all of baseball.
Heuer's wild 48-hour ride
At the end of the day, baseball is a business, but a brutal one at that. Heuer came over from Cleveland along with catcher Bo Naylor.
Both players were optioned to Triple-A Nashville, so it's clear they had no immediate intentions for either of them.
Once it was revealed that they weren't trading backup catcher Gary Sanchez and prized prospect Jefferson Quero wasn't going anywhere, it was easy to come to the conclusion that Naylor was simply catching depth, but more importantly, the Brewers wanted to free themselves of Craig Yoho.
Yoho was dealt in this deal, along with Blake Perkins, but now all the Brewers have left is Naylor. He certainly hasn't had a great year, but that's exactly why they put him with the Nashville Sounds.
The exact cash considerations for Heuer likely won't ever be revealed, but this was clearly a roster manipulation style move, one that really puts things into perspective as to just how crazy things are behind the scenes with teams scrambling at the trade deadline.
Heuer, Rodriguez replaced by three new pitchers
Milwaukee made a pair of trades today that saw them acquire starter Dustin May along with relievers JoJo Romero and Antonio Senzatela.
In order to make room for those three, it's clear there simply wasn't a place for Yoho, Heuer, or Rodriguez.
Even with Rodriguez being a two-time Minor League pitcher of the year and having 11 games of big league experience, it was decided that he was no longer a necessary part of this franchise. Things could always change, but for the time being, Milwaukee will ride out these rentals and hope for the best.
