The Milwaukee Brewers' Gold Glove Award winner joins baseball’s elite after a historic championship run.

In a bit of a shocking announcement, Milwaukee Brewers second baseman Brice Turang was named a National League MVP finalist.

Turang will go head-to-head against Los Angeles Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani and Chicago Cubs' Pete Crow-Armstrong, showing just how good he truly was this season.

The Gold Glove Award winner also has a World Series championship to his name in 2026, and to say he was a valuable asset to the Brewers would be the understatement of the century.

Most expect PCA to run away with this award, especially since Ohtani was relegated to only hitting in the back half of the season, but Turang's name is here for a reason.

Turang, 26, is officially the highest-placed Brewers player in terms of MVP positioning since Robin Young was named the American League MVP back in 1982.

The 2026 season for the Brewers has a ton of parallels to that year, mostly due to that being the only other time the Brewers made the World Series.

The difference this time around is that the Brewers won it all for the first time ever, and now Turang is chasing yet another piece of hardware.

Brewers' Turang faces stiff competition

As heated as the Brewers vs. Cubs rivalry is, it's going to be hard for Brewers fans to come up with an argument as to why Turang should be named MVP over Crow-Armstrong.

The Cubs had a very lackluster run in the postseason, unlike the Brewers, but PCA winning his first career MVP award should at least give them a consolation prize to end the season.

It took Turang just four years to go from being a Gold Glove Award winner to an MVP finalist, though that doesn't mean this honor wasn't well deserved.

The California native was a 7.3 WAR player this season, so that number alone shows just how valuable he truly was.

Turang slashed .268/.366/.450 with an OPS of .816. To no surprise, most of those were career highs, though his batting average was down slightly from the .288 it was a year ago.

While postseason numbers don't matter in MVP voting, it's worth noting that Turang had an .817 OPS in the playoffs with four doubles, a home run, four RBIs, and he drew more walks (11) than strikeouts (10).

Turang finished the 2026 season with his first career 100-RBI year, and he set a new career high with 21 home runs.
