The Milwaukee Brewers aim to cap a grueling stretch with another series victory as Jacob Misiorowski and Pittsburgh Pirates' Paul Skenes headline a must-watch clash of elite young arms.
The Milwaukee Brewers are three games away from finally ending a brutal 18-game stretch in 17 days.
All things considered, this stretch has been a massive success. No one expected the Brewers to win every game, but they just won their third straight series.
Other than dropping two to the Chicago Cubs on June 27-28, Milwaukee has won every series in this stretch, up to this point.
Now, the Pittsburgh Pirates await. Milwaukee is forced to play three more games on the road. Dating back to July 3, they've won six of eight away from home.
Friday, July 10
Brandon Sproat (3-4, 5.13 ERA) vs. Braxton Ashcraft (9-3, 3.24 ERA)
Sproat only managed to go 4.0 innings in his last start, but it came after back-to-back games where he picked up the win. The state of this Brewers bullpen is actually better than expected, but knowing there are only three games left, they could sure use a deep start.
Ashcraft has picked up the win in four straight games. He's gone at least 5.0 innings in every start since Tuesday, April 28. He's among the most reliable pitchers in the entire league, but is stuck on a Pirates roster where he doesn't get the credit he deserves.
Saturday, July 11
Shane Drohan (4-2, 2.97 ERA) vs. Bubba Chandler (3-8, 4.82 ERA)
Drohan will be making just his ninth start of the season. The lefty will be one game shy of 20 appearances heading into the All-Star break, but he's been an unsung hero for Milwaukee up to this point. Drohan went six solid innings in his last start, one that saw him improve to 4-2 thanks to him allowing just one run on six hits.
Chandler is on the opposite end of the spectrum. He only managed to go 4.0 innings back on July 5. Coming off the month of June where he went 2-2 in six starts, the Pirates would love to get more out of Chandler than four earned runs on six hits and four walks.
Sunday, July 12
Jacob Misiorowski (10-4, 1.62 ERA) vs. Paul Skenes (7-8, 3.58 ERA)
Baseball fans couldn't ask for a better pitching dual than this. This game is stuck behind a subscription service (Peacock), but it'll be worth the price of the monthly subscription alone.
Miz picked up his 10th win thanks to a stellar start on July 7. He's opted not to pitch in the All-Star game in order to make one more regular season start this season.
Skenes numbers aren't perfect, but he's still one of the best young pitchers in all of baseball. He's the same age as Misiorowski (24), but is notably just 1-3 in his last five starts. Even more notable is the fact that he hasn't gone deeper than 6.0 innings since Tuesday, May 12.
