Facing another major shoulder surgery, Milwaukee Brewers' veteran ace Brandon Woodruff vows to attack his rehab and return to the mound.

Rumors began to swirl when Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy announced that Brandon Woodruff had an announcement to make this weekend.

Woodruff, 33, was moved to the 60-day Injured List after his right shoulder failed him for the second time this season.

Not only has this been an issue in 2026, but it's the same issue that kept him out for roughly a year and a half from 2023 to 2025.

On Saturday, July 18, Woodruff met with the media to announce that he has no plans of retiring. Surgery is once again necessary, but the Mississippi native plans on pitching again, should everything go according to plan.

Woodruff to undergo second capsule surgery

For the second time in three years, Woodruff is undergoing a capsule surgery in his shoulder. Woodruff told MLB.com's Adam McCalvy, "I'm not having a funeral or anything."

When Murphy said things weren't looking good and he wanted to wait so Woodruff could address the media himself, Brewers fans speculated the worst things imaginable.

Thankfully, "Big Woo" said he has no plans on retiring, and he went into further detail on where things will go from here.

"It's unfortunate, and for me personally, I've got to go ahead and attack this rehab with the goal in mind of pitching again. So this is something I've got to have, regardless if I'm 50 years old or now," Woodruff said, according to Brewers' TV reporter Sophia Minnaeart.

He added, "I'm not happy about it, but it's a beautiful thing where this has all kind of come at a time for me when my third child just came, we had an All-Star break, and I had time to really sit down and think about this. But yeah, I'm not having a funeral or anything.”

The state of the Brewers' starting rotation

The good news is Woodruff isn't retiring, but the bad news is the Brewers are down a second starting pitcher here in 2026.

Quinn Priester was shut down not too long ago, and that was after numerous attempts to get him going at the minor league level.

Jacob Misiorowski was recently dealing with arm fatigue, and Logan Henderson experienced a cramp that saw him pulled in five innings against the Miami Marlins. There are a million things to monitor with this team's starting rotation, and that doesn't even include Kyle Harrison, who's also currently on the Injured List.
