Contreras' Return Headlines Brewers' Eight Roster Moves
Nov 2, 2026 11:30 PM

Milwaukee secures World Series MVP William Contreras through 2027 while reshuffling the 40-man roster, parting ways with Gary Sanchez and losing Akil Baddoo to a division rival.

In addition to extending a qualifying offer to first baseman Jake Bauers, the Milwaukee Brewers have announced seven more roster moves.

Monday, Nov. 2, was a busy day across the league as teams had to set their 40-man rosters and make sure all of the QOs and options were either exercised or declined.

A few days ago, Dustin May was the first player to decline his mutual option, but a few more options have been declined to start the week.

Most importantly, Milwaukee exercised catcher William Contreras' club option for 2027, so he'll be back on the team for at least another year.

Only one player was claimed off waivers, and then a pair of pitchers cleared waivers to make everything official by the 5 p.m. ET deadline.

Contreras is back

Other than the qualifying offer to Bauers, by far the biggest news of the day was the fact that Contreras will return to the club in 2027.

The reigning World Series MVP is coming back on a $15.5 million option, but that feels like a steal with how well he performed in October.

Contreras has an incredible relationship not just with this pitching staff, but his leadership and ability to deliver big hits, timely challenges, and play incredible defense led him to being named the MVP after Milwaukee's first-ever World Series championship.

Brewers announce three declined options

May's option was declined almost immediately after the Brewers won the World Series, but now two more decisions have been revealed.

Right-handed pitcher Antonio Senzatela has declined his club option, and then the Brewers declined the mutual option for backup catcher Gary Sanchez.

With Sanchez's age and how little he was used in the postseason, that makes complete sense, especially with Jefferson Quero patiently waiting in Triple-A.

Two players outrighted to Triple-A Nashville

Speaking of the Nashville Sounds, RHP Bryse Wilson and left-handed pitcher Jared Koenig cleared waivers and have been outrighted to Triple-A Nashville.

That said, Wilson elected to remain on the team while Koenig has elected free agency. Only time will tell where he goes, but for now, Wilson is the only one of those two who is going to return next season.

Outfielder is claimed off waivers

The Pittsburgh Pirates liked what they saw in outfielder Akil Baddoo, so they decided to pick him up.

Baddoo was officially claimed off waivers, so now he could suit up for the Brewers' National League Central rival in 2027.
