The Milwaukee Brewers are keeping shortstop prospect Cooper Pratt in the organization for the long haul.
On Friday, the Milwaukee Brewers finalized an eight-year contract with 21-year-old prospect Cooper Pratt. The deal, according to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com, guarantees $50.75 million.
Pratt, a shortstop is the No. 4 prospect in the Brewers’ system, recently spoke with Hunter Baumgardt of Fox Sports 920 about what made him want to be a part of the organization.
“The people, everyone's been super good to me, super nice to me since when I got drafted,” Pratt told Baumgardt. “All the coaches were super good to me. I've been able to go through the system and meet a bunch of new people.
“I remember my first big-league Spring Training last year and all those guys were super good, super good to me, super nice,” Pratt added. “There weren't any real jerks. Everyone was just, it's like a team, man.”
The Brewers signed Pratt in July 2023 when the latter chose to forgo his commitment to Ole Miss.
“And everyone, I mean, everyone does their job," Pratt said. "And if I could have the opportunity to be a part of that, I mean, I took the opportunity. I love everything that the organization does and yeah, hopefully I can help them out in the show.”
Pratt looked bound for Ole Miss as the 2023 MLB Draft churned on, but he was selected in the sixth round and ended up signing for $1.35 million. That is an amount comparable to second-round money according to his MLB.com profile.
Pratt has been effective in Milwaukee’s minor league system, and this season, he has played three games for Triple-A Nashville and has hit .267 with an RBI in 15 at-bats. Through 231 games in the minors, Pratt has produced a .267/.354/.376 slash line with a .730 OPS.
According to his scouting profile, Pratt possesses solid bat-to-ball skills and was able to cut his strikeout rate down from 20% during the 2024 season to 15.2% during the 2025 season.
However, the report is critical of his lack of power despite his 6-foot-3 frame. The report predicts he will achieve “average pop,” but that he will sit somewhere between 12-15 home runs each season.
Where Pratt shines is his defense. His prowess at shortstop led to a 2024 Minor League Gold Glove Award, and his scouting report lauds his instincts and timing at a premium position. His speed is decent, though it does not provide him with large range.
However, scouts believe that his arm strength and accuracy will help when it comes to deep throws, and there is a belief that he could be Milwaukee’s shortstop of the future despite vying for that position against Jesús Made and Luis Peña.
