Milwaukee Brewers center fielder Garrett Mitchell is getting recognized for an impressive season.

The Milwaukee Brewers have officially secured the best record in Major League Baseball after defeating the New York Mets on Monday, 8-3 at American Family Field in Milwaukee.

To get to this point, the Brewers have gotten contributions up and down the roster, and they have experienced significant growth from their young talent. One such player who has put his value on full display is center fielder Garrett Mitchell.

Mitchell has been having a great season. In 90 games and 286 at-bats, he has a .283 average, a .368 on-base percentage, a .465 slugging percentage and an .833 OPS. As a defender, he has been dependable and mostly error-free, posting a .995 fielding percentage through 86 games in center field.

Because of Mitchell’s strong year, he has earned the praise of former MLB utility man Mark DeRosa, who is an analyst for MLB Network.

"Garrett Mitchell, career splits from '22 to ‘25," DeRosa said. "254 in 141 games," DeRosa said. "The slug at 433. I mean, still a .766 if you combine the on-base and slug. He was still a productive player, but he just couldn't stay healthy and stay in the lineup.

"Well, that's changed," DeRosa added. "He'll kill you on defense, he'll kill you on the base pass. But the offense has gone next level, and he drives the ball the other way."

Against the Mets on Monday, Mitchell contributed two hits in four at-bats and an RBI, which came via a single in the bottom of the first inning off former teammate and Mets right-hander Freddy Peralta.

"Off Freddy Peralta, just spits on a non-competitive heater, misses in, and roasts an absolute bullet on a breaking ball to get his first knock of the day," DeRosa said. "And there's a steady diet of these swings. He is not selling out for power. He doesn't have to sell out for power.

"Shooting the ball up the middle the other way and in July, he has been on an absolute heater," DeRosa said. "He's hitting .397. He's on base almost 50% of the time."

DeRosa also praised Mitchell for his bat speed, which according to Baseball Savant, is fifth in baseball at 77.4 mph. Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Junior Caminero and St. Louis Cardinals right fielder and 2026 Home Run Derby Champion Jordan Walker lead the list, but DeRosa highlights that Mitchell has a shorter swing than Caminero and Walker.

Moreover, Mitchell is in the 89th percentile of hard-hit percentage, and he is in the 87th percentile of barrel percentage. Much of the attention this season has been on All-Star righty Jacob Misiorowski, but the impact of Mitchell cannot be overlooked.
