Legacy meets potential as the Milwaukee Brewers stock up on high-velocity arms and big-name legacy talents, including Trey Ebel and the son of former Cy Young winner CC Sabathia.
The 2026 MLB Draft has concluded, and it's one that saw the Milwaukee Brewers select a few notable names.
If the last name Ebel sounds familiar, that's because the Milwaukee Brewers' No. 25 overall selection, Trey Ebel, has a brother who's already in the organization.
If that's not enough, Milwaukee ended the draft with a bang. No one ever knows if a 20th-round pick is going to turn into anything, but last names go a long way in this world.
The team's No. 611 overall pick, Carsten Sabathia, is indeed the son of former Brewers pitcher CC Sabathia. He may not be a pitcher like his father, but the college senior still has plenty to bring to the table.

Projected pick values
According to MLB.com, the projected pick value for Milwaukee's first round selection is $3.7 million. To no surprise, that's the most of any of their draft picks, by far.
Only their top 10 picks have a pick value listed, but Trey Ebel's is more than double the team's second round selection.
The only other draft pick with a projected pick value north of $1M is Sawyer Strosnider. The junior out of TCU sits at $1.35M.
Players all the way down to Andrew Gaines have pick values, with Gaines clocking in at the lowest ($191,900). Below that is anyone's guess, and remember, the Brewers still need to pull through and sign all of these players in the first place.
High schoolers vs. college athletes
Milwaukee got their draft started with a high school senior in Ebel, but immediately followed it up with a junior at college. From there, things continued to fluctuate.
Four of the Brewers first six picks were college athletes. Strosnider, as previously mentioned, currently plays for TCU. The team's third-round pick, Kyle Jones, is a junior at Florida.
Julian Garcia is a high schooler out of St. John Bosco while both Aidan Knaak (Clemson) and Ryan Oshinskie (Brown) come from a college background. For what it's worth, all four of those early selections are all juniors in college. Unlike Ebel though, Jones is a junior in high school.
Position players vs. pitchers
The Brewers focused on position players with their first three selections. Ebel is a shortstop while Strosnider and Jones are both outfielders. From there, the pitchers came hot and heavy.
Milwaukee selected four straight pitchers, and it's incredible to think 13 of their final 17 selections were all pitchers. After the aforementioned trio, the only other position players taken were Tom (1B), Hart (OF), Ruby (SS), and Sabathia (1B).
