From a dominant 2.52 ERA to crushing divisional sweeps, the Milwaukee Brewers surged from last place to first behind historic pitching performances and a healthy, high-powered offense.

The Milwaukee Brewers finished the month of May with a stellar 19-7 record, one that was the best in all of baseball.

Since May 5 in particular, the Brewers are 17-5 and went from last place in the NL Central to a commanding 4.5-game division lead.

The division is still up for grabs, no doubt, but this is a month Milwaukee will remember for quite some time. Things can change in an instant, and the Brewers have begun to put everything together now that the team has most of their offense at full strength.

Pitching wise there are still a few notable injuries, but Jacob Misiorowski has more than carried the load as he put up one of the best months a pitcher has ever assembled.

Team ERA in May: 2.52

Milwaukee put up the best ERA of any team in the month of May. Miz's stellar month certainly helped their case, especially after a game like yesterday where he threw seven scoreless innings and they were able to slam the door shut thanks to Abner Uribe and Trevor Megill.

That is certainly a winning formula, but Brewers manager Pat Murphy knows not every starter is going seven scoreless. It's incredible this team has pitched as well as they have, especially knowing Brandon Woodruff, Quinn Priester, and Logan Henderson all inactive.

Seven Series Wins

Other than splitting a two-game series with the St. Louis Cardinals, the Brewers won all but one of the series they played in the month of May. Ultimately, there's no shame in dropping two games to the Los Angeles Dodgers, and that shows just how strong of a month it was for the Brew Crew.

Overall, Milwaukee secured series victories over seven teams, two of which being in their division. Not only did the Brewers win their series against the Chicago Cubs and Cardinals, but they swept them.

Three Sweeps

The Brewers went 6-0 against the Cubs and Cardinals from May 18-27. Sweeping the Cubs was a big power move, but it was even more impactful with all three of those games coming at Wrigley Field.

Elsewhere, the Brewers swept the New York Yankees in a three-game series that proved just how good this team truly is. Max Fried took the loss in game one, a game that saw Milwaukee pull out a 6-0 victory. They won the other two games, 4-3, including a 10-inning game that saw Aaron Ashby pick up his seventh victory of the year.
