Milwaukee Brewers second baseman Brice Turang messed up early against the St. Louis Cardinals. Then, he delivered in a big way.

A late-game surge by the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday led to a 4-3 series-opening win over the St. Louis Cardinals, marking their second one-run victory in as many days.

It also marked the second time in that span Milwaukee used the seventh inning to put up multiple runs in a come-from-behind effort. Against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday, the Brewers scored three runs in the seventh after being shut out in the preceding innings, and on Monday, they scored four runs in the frame.

The difference on Monday was how integral Brice Turang was for the Brewers late in the game. Especially after an early mistake put left-hander Shane Drohan and the defense in a tough spot when Turang made an error at second in the third inning that resulted in two men on and no outs for the Cardinals.

St. Louis ended up taking a 2-0 lead in the third, and it added another run in the sixth to make it a 3-0 game. If Turang and his teammates were going to pull off the win, they were going to have to step up quickly.

Turang responded in a big way in the seventh with a two-RBI single that gave the Brewers the lead and capped off a four-run inning. After the game, Turang talked with Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and other members of the media about his performance and another comeback win.

"Yeah, a little grindy and then scratch it out," Turang said. "So, at the end of the day, that's what you want, you just want to win. So, whatever it takes to win, whether we're playing our best game or our worst game, try to finish it out with a win."

Turang also reflected on his error, which led to a moment of accountability.

"You try to let it go," Turang said. "But I did go up to Dro’, 'Hey, my bad.’ I mean, it cost him some extra pitches. So, I don't know if we turn the double play there, but definitely get that one out. Yeah, obviously, I don't want him to throw more pitches than he has to.

"And maybe he can go an extra inning or two, keep our bullpen rested," Turang added. "So, I think about that. I think that's kind of me, myself, having the errors or whatever. But when it affects the game; affects my teammates, that's where I kind of feel it the most. So, I talked to Dro’ about it, apologized and moved on."

Drohan still provided six innings during the outing, which meant that Brewers manager Pat Murphy had to rely on two relievers from his bullpen. It was Drohan’s eighth start of the season, and Turang praised his growth.

"Yeah, it's impressive what he does," Turang said. "I mean, our whole pitching staff is really fun to watch, what they can do, how they can move the ball. And yeah, I'm starting to see him grow, get better as a pitcher. And it's really fun to watch."
