Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Brandon Sproat got his first start of the season, and it did not go well.

The Milwaukee Brewers were able to overcome a five-run deficit to defeat the Chicago White Sox on Sunday, 9-7, and complete the series sweep. In the game, Brewers right-hander Brandon Sproat made his first start of the regular season.

It did not go well.

Sproat pitched three innings and allowed six hits, three of which were home runs, seven earned runs, and four walks while striking out three batters. After the game, Sproat talked with the media.

“You know, obviously, I'm just happy for the guys today.” Sproat said. “I mean, I didn't do my job today, but the bullpen came in and picked me up. Jared, GA, Jake, and then Megill came and closed the door.

“I mean, they all did a phenomenal job, and then the offense never gave up,” he added. “And that's amazing to see after putting us down. But watching them just go to work every single pitch, just battle it out until the very end.”

After allowing a four-run first inning followed by a two-run second inning and a one-run third inning, Sproat and the Brewers found themselves down 7-2. However, the bullpen came in and did not allow another run while only giving up three hits and a walk the rest of the way as the offense mounted a comeback.

The Brewers did most of their damage with a six-run eighth inning. which included a three-run blast by Christian Yelich to right field to give Milwaukee the lead for good.

“Obviously, the Yelly homer, I mean, that was super awesome to watch,” Sproat said. “So, props to all of them. But I mean, going about the rest of the day, I mean, I'm super happy.

"I'm happy for my teammates," Sproat continued. "And then we'll come tomorrow, look over it, and get back to work.”

Sproat also touched on how he tried to mentally navigate such a long first inning.

“Yeah, I mean, those long innings, they're never fun,” he said. “But I think that's where you gotta really kind of dig deep and just try to take it one pitch at a time the best you can. Just try to get some sort of quick out, some ground ball.

“Just let the defense work behind you and try to get out of it as quick as possible,” Sproat added.

Sproat also said that his delivery may have felt slightly off, and he reiterated that it is something he will look at. He also talked about the production of the offense.

“I was just talking to Quinn [Priester] the other day about it,” Sproat said. “And I was like, ‘These guys, they can swing it.’ But I mean, after watching today, and like I said, them never giving up. It's definitely reassuring as a pitcher. even though you're going good or whether you have a crappy day like today. Those guys are still battling for you.

"That's what's super awesome is that this is a team,” Sproat added. “Everyone kind of pulls for each other, and it never gives up.”
