The Milwaukee Brewers' offense could not be stopped on Monday night.

The Milwaukee Brewers opened their four-game series against the San Francisco Giants with a 16-2 blowout win at American Family Field in Milwaukee on Monday.

An unrelenting offensive performance went into the Brewers’ highest-scoring game of the season, so let’s identify how it happened.

A Third-Inning Haymaker

After coming off a 19-6 win over the Colorado Rockies, the Giants looked as if they would continue their offensive momentum when Matt Chapman hit a two-run home run in the top of the second inning to give San Francisco an early 2-0 lead.

However, the response that the Brewers gave was a knockout punch in itself, and it was their night to shine.

After Jake Bauers won a challenge that resulted in a leadoff walk to open the bottom of the second inning, the Brewers’ batting order began attacking Landen Roupp. Sal Frelick followed with a double to right field to score Bauers, and Luis Rengifo notched an RBI single to bring Frelick across home plate and tie the game.

Milwaukee’s offensive onslaught was hardly finished, though, as a successful David Hamilton bunt and a walk drawn by Christian Yelich loaded the bases, which set up Jackson Chorio. Chourio did not waste the opportunity, and he provided a two-RBI double to make it a 4-2 game.

Subsequently, Brice Turang stepped up to the plate and hit a sharp fly ball to right field that resulted in a two-RBI triple. Then, Brewers catcher William Contreras put the finishing touches on the inning with a sacrifice-fly RBI to give his team a 7-2 lead.

Continuing to Add on

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Brewers added one more run to the board to end Roupp’s night and send him back to the dugout with a final line of eight hits, eight earned runs, and five walks with four strikeouts over four innings. Going to the bullpen did not matter for the Giants as Milwaukee’s offense did not slow down.

The Brewers totaled four more runs across the sixth and seventh innings thanks to RBIs by Andrew Vaughn, Christian Yelich and Chourio. With a convincing 12-2 lead at their side in the eighth inning, the Brewers could have slowed down, but didn’t.

The Giants went to Buddy Kennedy, their third reliever of the night, but he was also terrorized by Milwaukee’s batting order. After Rengifo and Hamilton got on base thanks to a single and a double, respectively, Yelich drove Rengifo home with an RBI single.

After Chourio walked, Joey Ortiz hit a double that scored Hamilton and Yelich. Contreras then delivered another sacrifice fly to score Chourio and cap off Milwaukee’s rout of the Giants.

By the end of the game, the Brewers had 18 hits in 38 at-bats, and seven batters had a multi-hit night.
