Milwaukee Brewers star Christian Yelich is giving back to the community once again.
Since 2018, Milwaukee Brewers designated hitter/outfielder Christian Yelich has donned the jersey of Wisconsin’s professional baseball team and, for the fourth year in a row, he is giving back to the community.
On May 21, Yelich and his family are set to host the Homeplate Charity Concert, an event that benefits charitable organizations in the Greater Milwaukee area.
This year, the Homeplate Charity Concert will be held at a new venue, Landmark Credit Union Live, and will be headlined by country music artist Jake Owen, who will be supported by acts like Isaac Slade (formerly of "The Fray") and Nicotine Dolls.
Leading up to the annual event, Yelich sat down with Sophie Minnaert of Brewers.TV to discuss the mission of it and its importance.
"Yeah, I mean, it's just, it's a nice thing to be able to give back to the community," Yelich said. "The community that supports us throughout the year, and I feel like the event's gotten bigger, it's progressed.
"It's gotten better every year," he added. "And it's something that's a lot of fun, and we enjoy seeing everybody out there having a good time, and, you know, also raising some money for some great causes."
Some of the music artists that Yelich and his family bring in for the Homeplate Charity Concert have changed over the years as larger names get added to the bill. However, Nicotine Dolls are a mainstay, and Yelich enjoys having them each time.
"It's headlined by Jake Owen this year," Yelich said. "Isaac Slade, who's the former lead singer of The Fray, is opening up for Jake, and then the Nicotine Dolls are back for their third year. We love having those guys as well.
"They're a great time," he added. "Put on an awesome show, and, you know, we're looking forward to seeing everybody out there and getting to enjoy the night, and, you know, do some good as well."
Along with the various acts that grace the stage at Yelich’s event are different charities that benefit from the occasion.
"Yeah, obviously, Brewers Community Foundation's involved," Yelich said. “A partner of Visit Milwaukee, Heartland Farm Sanctuary,Cooking for Kids, the library and, you know, we're just looking forward to, you know, touching on some different causes.
"You know, last year was ALS, Visit Milwaukee, BCF," he added. "So, kind of try to spread it out and hit a little bit of everything, so we're really excited to be partnering with them and do some good in the community, and also having a great night with a lot of fun, some great food, great music, and just a great night with some friends."
