Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Jacob Misiorowski put together an outing to remember against the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Milwaukee Brewers snapped their two-game losing streak with a dominant 6-0 series-opening win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday at American Family Field in Milwaukee.
Behind a historic performance by right-hander Jacob Misiorowski, the Brewers executed highly to get the win. Here is how it happened:
Misiorowski Master Class
There are reasons why Misiorowski has become one of Major League Baseball’s exciting young stars.
His lightning-quick velocity and his ability to rack up strikeouts while hardly even allowing a hit are a couple of those reasons, and both were on full display on Friday.
Misiorowski pitched a complete-game shutout and struck out 15 batters, marking a career high, while only allowing one hit. From the moment he took the mound, the Phillies did not have an answer.
Misiorowski opened the game by striking out the Phillies' side, which included Kyle Schwarber, Trea Turner, and Bryce Harper. When Misiorowski fanned Schwarber to open his night of strikeouts, his fastball hit 104.5 mph, the fastest pitch by a starting pitcher in MLB history.
In the top of the second inning, Misiorowski notched his fourth strikeout in a row before the Phillies could even put the ball in play, and he got out of the inning by forcing subsequent groundouts. In the top of the third inning, he struck out the side again.
In the top of the fourth, after being struck out by a record-setting pitch, Schwarber hit a lead-off single, which would mark Philadelphia’s lone hit of the evening. Afterward, Turner struck out, and Harper grounded out.
In the top of the fifth, Misiorowski notched another strikeout before forcing a pop-out and a fly-out to end the inning. He was cruising along, and the Phillies had no answer.
The sixth inning offered more of a dominant spectacle for the crowd at American Family Field as Misiorowski struck out two of the three batters he faced. In the top of the seventh, catcher William Contreras won a challenge against Schwarber that earned Misiorowski another punchout, his 12th of the evening.
In the eighth, Misiorowski ended the frame with another strikeout after giving his defense the opportunity to get the first two outs. Misiorowski just needed to make it through the top of the ninth for the complete game, and he did so by forcing two groundouts before capping off his gem with his 15th strikeout of the night.
According to his Baseball Savant profile, Misiorowski threw 95 pitches, 69 of which were four-seam fastballs, the average speed of which was 101.7 mph.
