The Milwaukee Brewers escaped a late push from the Kansas City Royals to win on Easter Sunday.

The Milwaukee Brewers were able to outlast the Kansas City Royals on Easter Sunday, 8-5, to improve to 7-2 on the season and secure their third series win. Below were the key moments and key performances in the victory:

Surviving a Late Scare

After taking hold of a 6-2 lead primarily because of a three-run first inning and a two-run seventh inning, the Brewers watched a comfortable advantage slip away rapidly in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The Royals’ offense pushed back, scoring three runs on four hits and a walk in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Brewers had to institute two pitching changes and eventually got out of the inning with left-hander Angel Zerpa on the mound.

Insurance Policy

After watching their lead get cut to one point, Milwaukee was unable to respond in the eighth inning, but the ninth inning was a different story.

Christian Yelich launched a double to left field in the top of the ninth after William Contreras grounded out. Subsequently, Jake Bauers hit a double to center field to bring Yelich across home plate.

Afterward, Bauers reached third base on a wild pitch by Kansas City’s Lucas Erceg, who then walked Garrett Mitchell. Mitchell ended up getting caught stealing at second base, but a two-out single by Brandon Lockridge brought Jake Bauers home to give the Brewers two insurance runs in the top of the final frame.

In the bottom of the ninth, Trevor Megill closed the door on the mound for Milwaukee.

Harrison’s Start

The Brewers called on lefty Kyle Harrison to make the start on Sunday. After an eight-strikeout outing against the Tampa Bay Rays on March 30, Harrison was solid once again.

Harrison pitched 5 ⅓ innings and struck out six batters while allowing three hits, two earned runs and two walks. Through the first two innings on the mound, Harrison was dominating the Royals lineup.

However, he started to develop blemishes on his performance in the bottom of the third inning after hitting Jonathan India with a pitch and then giving up a two-run home run to Maikel Garcia.

Harrison got out of the inning and was able to send the Royals down in order in the bottom of the fourth inning. He would get through the bottom of the fifth only allowing a single before being replaced in the bottom of the sixth inning by Grant Anderson.

Contreras’ Day at the Plate

William Contreras was an offensive catalyst at the plate for Milwaukee.

After going 1-for-4 against the Royals in Saturday’s 5-2 win, Contreras went 2-for-3 on Sunday with two RBIs while taking two walks in the win. The only player beside him to have a multi-hit day for Milwaukee was Yelich (2-for-5).
