The Milwaukee Brewers completed the series win over the Tampa Bay Rays with an 8-2 victory on Wednesday.

After dropping the series opener to the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday, the Milwaukee Brewers were able to complete a series win over the former with an 8-2 win on Wednesday.

Below were the key moments and performances from the game:

A Scary Moment

In the top of the second inning, Brewers right-hander Jacob Misiorowski delivered a 100 mph fastball to Tampa Bay’s Nick Fortes. Fortes fouled the ball off, which struck the facemask of home plate umpire CB Bucknor.

Bucknor dropped to his hands and knees in visible pain. Milwaukee catcher William Contreras aided him with his arm around Bucknor’s back until he was assisted by athletic trainers.

Bucknor made his way to the umpire’s room and would not return to the game. His injury adds another layer of adversity to an already-difficult week for the 63-year-old, who has had numerous calls overturned by the Automatic Ball-Strike System introduced to MLB games this season.

A Strong Performance by 'The Miz'

Six days after notching a franchise-record 11 strikeouts in the first Opening Day start of his career, Misiorowski returned to the mound at American Family Field in Milwaukee with another commanding effort.

Misiorowski pitched six innings and struck out seven batters while allowing four hits, two earned runs and two walks. Rays designated hitter Yandy Diaz took Misiorowski deep for a two-run home run in the top of the third inning, but that would be the only time Tampa Bay would score off the 23-year-old.

A Six-Run Eighth

In the early days of the 2026 season, the Brewers are making a habit of scoring a lot in the eighth inning.

Just three days after mounting a six-run offensive series in the eighth inning to complete a comeback win over the Chicago White Sox, the Brewers punished the Rays with another six-run eighth inning.

Until the eighth, the game was tied 2-2. Then, Milwaukee used a small-ball effort to open up a lead. Christian Yelich, Garrett Mitchell, Blake Perkins, and David Hamilton each accounted for RBIs, turning what was once a tight race to the finish line into a rout.

Yelich Delivers

Coming into Wednesday’s game, Christian Yelich had been producing well at the plate through the first week of the season. That trend continued in the final game against the Rays.

Yelich bounced back from striking out in his first two at-bats by reaching first base on a bunt in the bottom of the sixth inning. He connected on a two-run single to open the scoring for the Brewers in the bottom of the eighth.

At 5-1, the Brewers will have Thursday off before traveling to Kauffman Stadium to take on the Kansas City Royals on Friday for their first road series of the season.
