Seven pitchers saw the mound for the Milwaukee Brewers in their 3-1 loss to the Kansas City Royals on Sunday. The first of them to take the hill was Chad Parick.
Patrick pitched two innings in the loss and logged two strikeouts while giving up two hits, two walks, and an earned run in his first spring game outing of 2026. Afterward, he talked about his performance.
“Yeah, it's definitely different than being on the backfield,” Patrick said. “Just a little bit more. It's a game; it's not lower innings. So, you grind in to figure it out, and I felt like my second inning was way better control wise than the first, and so I was happy about that.”
Patrick, 27, made his MLB debut last season with the Brewers on March 29. He would go on to appear in 27 games during the 2025 campaign (23 starts) and log a 3-8 record with a 3.53 ERA and 1.28 WHIP in 119 2/3 innings of work.
So far, Patrick has enjoyed the process of a game setting.
“Yeah, no, I've enjoyed it,” he said. “You know, just really, I think as pitchers, we're really hard on ourselves when we're in practice and so, you're looking at the process of all your pitches and really nitpicky on them and then you get in the game, it's a little different situation.
“So, it was more comfortable for me to be out there learning that way than it was for me being on the backfield beating me up, beating myself up.”
Heading into his sophomore season, Patrick is trying to retain a key trait.
“I think I take away the confidence that I had last year and try to take it into this season and just be me, you know, don't try to be anything different than what I was,” Patrick said.
Patrick originally began his career with the Arizona Diamondbacks when the organization selected him with the 107th pick in the fourth round of the 2021 MLB Draft out of Purdue University Northwest. He remained within the organization until he was traded to the Athletics on July 31, 2023.
Patrick remained with the Athletics briefly until he was traded again to the Brewers on Nov 15, 2023. From there, he spent the 2024 season in Milwaukee’s minor-league system before having his contract selected on Nov. 19, 2024. Now, Patrick has a chance to make an impact after gaining MLB experience last season.
