The Milwaukee Brewers could land one of baseball's most dominant pitchers.

The Milwaukee Brewers have become one of Major League Baseball’s dominant young teams, and their success is largely due to talent evaluation and development.

Players such as Jacob Misiorowski, Brice Turang, and Jackson Chourio have made their mark in the organization as homegrown players and have captured the attention of the baseball world, and the organization currently possesses the sport’s top prospect in Jesus Made.

Because the Brewers are a small-market franchise, they do not spend heavily to acquire veteran, ready-made talent. Instead, they rely on their farm system and internal development to construct the bulk of recent teams that have been successful.

However, Milwaukee possesses so many interesting and talented prospects, if the front office wanted to go big-game hunting for an elite player, it could. It is this premise that has caused MLB insider Ken Rosenthal to link two-time Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal to the Brewers.

"They, in this position they're in right now, are doing a tremendous job of developing young players; bringing them to the major leagues," Rosenthal said in an appearance on "Foul Territory TV."

"And this was actually a reason why I thought a trade for Skubal, while extremely unlikely for them, most likely, is something that they at least can entertain because they have the prospects to do it," he added.

"Now, whether they would want to trade the prospects, take on the $10 million, if indeed Skubal gets traded, that is another question entirely."

Skubal is currently playing on a one-year, $32 million deal with the Detroit Tigers after winning his arbitration case in February. Given his resume, he will command a contract in free agency that the Brewers simply could not pay in the long run.

Yet, if Milwaukee feels it has a reason to go all in on a deep postseason run with Skubal added to an already talented pitching rotation, then a short-term move may be worth the risk.

"And frankly, I don't believe they would do that," Rosenthal said. "But they are positioned to do the same kind of trade they did with [CC] Sabathia in 2008 if they want to. Sabathia was a rental; Skubal would be a rental as well."

Skubal is currently dealing with a left elbow injury, and the Tigers are struggling immensely with a 22-35 record, meaning his time could be nearing its end with the organization sooner than later. If the Brewers want to take a chance on one of baseball’s most dominant arms, then they likely have the assets to get Detroit’s attention.
