The Milwaukee Brewers' losing streak reached five games after being swept by Washington Nationals. However, Brandon Woodruff isn't phased.

The Milwaukee Brewers’ woes continued with an 8-6 loss on Sunday to the Washington Nationals, a game that extended their losing streak to five games.

Despite the recent skid after an 8-2 start to the season, right-hander Brandon Woodruff remains calm.

“It's still early, I mean, it's so early,” Woodruff said. “And it's just one of those things, you know as a team and as a ball club, you'll go through these ups and downs. And that was kind of a heartbreaker today, we made the comeback there and put ourselves in a good position and just couldn't hang on.

“So that's part of the game,” he added. “Just have to clean up a few things and keep giving ourselves chances, and that's the main thing. But the group, no, we're not, I mean, we've been through this a lot. So let's just get ready and come to the ballpark and get ready to win a game.”

Woodruff made his fourth start of the season on Sunday and struck out six batters while allowing three hits, one earned run, and a walk in six innings. After the game, Woodruff talked about improvements he would like to make.

“Yeah, I'm just trying to make a couple of adjustments in between,” Woodruff said. “Just didn't quite like where my mechanics were in terms of command, and I just needed to clean up a couple of things. And that's a tough lineup, it's a lot like us.

“They don't strike out much, they put the ball in play,” he added. “And today my job was to keep the team in the game and try to get a win here, but credit to them, they played a heck of a series.”

Woodruff’s day ended in the top of the seventh inning when he was replaced by Abner Uribe. In hindsight, he knows it was the right call.

“Physically, I was good,” he said. "We discussed it in between innings and I was fine to go out, but I was getting over the edge in terms of how I was feeling. And we had our guys ready, so, we discussed it there for a little bit. But that was — it's the right move, it's all hindsight.

"I mean, you can pick apart everything when it comes to that,” Woodruff added. “I could have went back out and gave it up just as, you know what I mean? Or you just don't know, so you can't play those what if games.

"And we had our guys ready to go," he added. "So it's just one of those things, you gotta credit their lineup. They battled, they put the ball in play, and found holes.”

The Brewers will return to action on Tuesday when they host the Toronto Blue Jays to kick off a three-game series.
