The Milwaukee Brewers have won five of their first six games, and Christian Yelich talked about how they have been able to do it.
The Milwaukee Brewers have roared to a 5-1 start through the first six games of the 2026 MLB season after an 8-2 win against the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday.
It was a game in which the Brewers trailed 2-0 before eventually tying it and using a six-run eighth inning to win in commanding fashion. After the game, Christian Yelich talked with the media about Milwaukee’s start to the season and its comeback wins.
“I don't know, we were just trying to find ways to win games,” Yelich said. “We find ourselves in them a lot of the times, and you just gotta do what you can there in the end, the last few innings, to kind of find out who's gonna come out on top.
“Two times we did, and one time not so much,” he added. “But good start for the guys, and just give us a chance every night.”
Beyond Wednesday's win over the Rays, the Brewers overcame a five-run deficit against the Chicago White Sox on Sunday to win 9-7 and complete the series sweep. On Wednesday, Yelich went 2-for-4, with one of his hits coming in the form of a two-run single to kick off Milwaukee’s eighth-inning onslaught.
Yelich also credited the bullpen, who struck out four batters while allowing only one hit and a walk after Jacob Misiorowski exited the game following a six-inning outing that saw him strike out seven batters.
“Yeah, I mean, like I said, we just kind of find ourselves in a lot of games,” Yelich repeated.
“You know, when you find yourselves in the game and having a chance to win, you kind of do what you can on offense," he said.
"So just try to push one or two across and give yourselves the opportunity to win the game,” he added. “And get it to the back-end guys and have them shut that thing down. So, they've been great for us multiple years now, and we lean on them heavy.”
Yelich also praised Misiorowski for the game he threw and his ability to bounce back from a tough moment when home plate umpire CB Bucknor was struck in the face by a foul ball.
“He's got great stuff, and he's coming right at guys,” Yelich said. “He had to deal with that kind of weird delay when CB took that foul tip. Which, that's tough, 20 minutes-ish right around there.
"You know, cold in the dome, and you're kind of just hanging out, chilling,” he added. “And then you gotta lock it back in real quick when the game starts up. So, he did a great job doing that.”
