The Milwaukee Brewers are just over two weeks away from hosting the Cleveland Guardians to kick off their 2026 Spring Training slate. In the days leading up to that point, it is time to preview Milwaukee’s outfield depth.
The Brewers have seven players listed on their depth chart at left field, but for the sake of avoiding redundancies or overlap with other positions, I will only review select players.
Jackson Chourio: Chourio spent most of his rookie season in 2024 playing left field. Out of 148 games, he played 91 in that corner (79 starts). In 723.2 full innings played, Chourio had 159 putouts and a 1.000 fielding percentage, illustrating his defensive discipline.
Though time in center field took up most of Chourio’s second MLB season, he did play 40 games in left field for Milwaukee in 2025, including 27 starts. Through 251 full innings played, Chourio committed no errors and had 61 putouts, demonstrating that he was just as sharp at the position as the year prior.
Heading into year three, Chourio is shaping up to be a young star for the Brewers, and his presence in left field will probably be called upon again.
Christian Yelich: An August 2024 back surgery redefined Yelich’s positioning last season as most of his reps came at designated hitter to manage his workload. In 150 games, he only played 19 in left field.
Yelich is still one of the Brewers’ marquee talents, but at 34 years old, age is becoming a factor. Still, Yelich is a dependable player in left field. He has appeared in 90-plus games at the position in four of his eight seasons in Milwaukee, and in those years, he has never had a fielding percentage below .990.
Yelich has also remained a reliable hitter, though 2025 was a weaker campaign for him at the plate as he's heading into his 14th major-league season. Regardless, it seems only health will keep the three-time All-Star and former MVP from being productive in 2026.
Jake Bauers: Bauers has played all over the outfield throughout his six active seasons in MLB, and while his sample size in left field is not large (142 total games, 120 starts), he has proven that he can play the position when needed. In 977.1 full innings in left field, Bauers has a .981 fielding percentage.
The Brewers have multiple options to employ in left field during the upcoming season, and each of those players has varying levels of experience.
