Garrett Mitchell’s three-hit performance anchored a dominant offensive outburst as the Milwaukee Brewers took a three-game series over the Seattle Mariners.
There was a hit parade at American Family Field on Thursday, Aug. 20, and it's one that guided the Milwaukee Brewers to a 7-4 victory.
Seattle Mariners starter George Kirby had no idea what hit him as he would allow six earned runs on nine hits in 3.1 innings of work.
Kirby fell to 8-10 on the year as the Brewers jumped all over him in a six-hit, six-run first inning.
Things got a bit dicey with Robert Gasser as the Brewers starter, but Chad Patrick and Aaron Ashby combined for a huge 4.1 innings that led to Trevor Megill picking up his 23rd save of the season.
Brewers score seven runs on 11 hits
After Dustin May's rough start the day prior, Gasser nearly let that rub off on him. Thankfully, he had enough run support due to a first inning that saw the Brewers bat around.
Luis Lara was the only player in the lineup not to record a hit in this game. He went 0-for-4 with a strikeout, one of the nine times Brewers hitters went down on strikes, but everyone else picked up at least one hit.
Offensively, look no further than Garrett Mitchell. The Brewers center fielder was 3-for-4 with a home run in the eighth inning, two runs, and three RBIs.
Not only that, but catcher Gary Sanchez had a pair of RBIs while the likes of Joey Ortiz and David Hamilton also drove in one run each.
Gasser was bailed out by the bullpen
Kirby's final line is one he soon wants to forget, but the same can be said about Gasser, who was pulled mid-at-bat in the fourth inning. Gasser managed to throw just 3.2 innings, and four was the magic number as he struck out four batters, walked four, and then allowed four earned runs on four hits.
Patrick ended up allowing one of those walks that counted against Gasser as he came into the game with a 2-0 count. That said, he allowed just two hits in 2.1 innings and struck out four batters, the same number Ashby would strike out in two innings of his own.
Patrick improved to 7-4 on the year while the Brewers now sit at 79-49. They're once again 30 games over .500, and it'll be interesting to see if they can continue to build momentum ahead of the Little League Classic on Sunday, Aug. 23, against the Atlanta Braves.
