Jackson Chourio’s power surge and Jacob Misiorowski’s record-breaking, 15-strikeout shutout propel the surging Milwaukee Brewers duo to a historic sweep of the National League’s weekly honors.
Not one, but two Milwaukee Brewers players have earned National League Player of the Week honors.
In a surprising move, the MLB has named Jackson Chourio and Jacob Misiorowski as Co-Players of the Week.
Chourio hit 13-for-29 this past week, which is good for a .448 batting average. If that's not impressive enough, he smashed five homers for 10 RBIs.
As for The Miz, his Maddux is well documented. A 95-pitch shutout isn't necessarily out of the ordinary, but to do so with 15 strikeouts is as insane as it gets.
Jackson Chourio Gets the Respect He Deserves
Milwaukee put pen to paper on one of the best contracts in baseball history. Chourio, 22, signed an eight-year, $82 million contract to remain with the Brewers in a contract that has club options through 2033.
Sure, the deal could reach $142.5M, but in this economy that's an absolute steal for a player of Chourio's caliber. The scariest part is he continues to get better, and he's really found his footing after starting the season on the injured list.
Chourio had a stretch where he hit three homers in less than a 24-hour stretch, something that had to be seen to be believed. He's on an absolute heater, and the MLB was more than justified to name him a Co-Player of the Week alongside a true Cy Young candidate.
Misiorowski's Start Couldn't Be Ignored
Plenty has been said about the Miz's latest start, but it's still not enough to put into perspective just how good it truly was. The Philadelphia Phillies looked foolish, and that just so happened to be the same team that ripped Misiorowski's All-Star selection a year ago.
Clearly, Miz had a lot to prove and he dug deeper than he ever did before on Friday, June 12. Now, he sits at 8-2 and sports a 1.34 ERA along with his league-leading 131 strikeouts and 0.74 WHIP.
Reaching back to hit 103 mph on a few pitches in the ninth inning is outrageous, and that's something most relievers can't even do. Miz is hitting that mark consistently, and if his 15 strikeouts in 95 pitches weren't good enough, he maxed out at 104.5 mph, which was the fastest pitch ever thrown by a starting pitcher.
What Misiorowski's doing simply isn't human, and after being snubbed of Player of the Month in May, Miz is on a mission here in the month of June.
