A grueling series finale in Milwaukee left the Brewers' bullpen reeling after DL Hall and Grant Anderson suffered mid-game injuries, complicating the team’s pitching depth during a stretch without rest.
After taking the first two games of the series, game four has not gone according to plan for the Milwaukee Brewers.
The San Francisco Giants continue to tee off on Milwaukee, and things went south early on against rookie Coleman Crow.
Crow, who's bounced around between Triple-A and the majors, struggled mightily in the series finale.
His short start certainly didn't help, but the last thing Pat Murphy wanted his bullpen to have to go through was not one, but two injuries.
DL Hall Exited in the Fifth Inning
Head athletic trainer Brad Epstein pulled Hall from the game in the fifth. While the exact details are unknown at this time, Murphy and Co. will have a lot to discuss at the post-game press conference.
Whether or not they have a full diagnosis of Hall's injury remains to be seen, but he was clearly frustrated and was nowhere near ready to complete the inning.
Knowing Crow only managed to get through 2.1 innings, it's crazy to think Hall, one of this team's inning eaters, made it that far as well before he was pulled for a reason that was completely different than the rookie.
Hall, 27, is a valuable lefty on a bullpen that doesn't have a ton of inning-eating relievers in the first place. Sure, there are guys like Shane Drohan and Chad Patrick, but those are traditional starters, one this team is definitely going to need as they have nearly another full week before getting an off day.
Grant Anderson Gets Hit by a Line Drive in the Seventh
Thankfully for the Brewers, Patrick was able to work his way through the Giants lineup with relative ease last night. He helped save this team's bullpen, one that is now down two arms after the series finale.
For reference, Hall's day was done after he threw 27 pitches in 2.1 innings. As for Anderson, he was at 30 pitches and had made it through just 1.1. His relief effort was cut short due to a sharp line drive that caught him on his throwing arm, again, the last thing the Brewers wanted to see.
The Giants continued to tee off on the Brewers after he was pulled, but these injuries are far more worrisome than the lopsided score that will be read once this game is final.
Losing a lefty is bad enough, but now having Anderson potentially out of the picture makes things incredibly more difficult in this lengthy stretch without an off day.
