Despite lingering offensive woes, the Milwaukee Brewers proved they're confident in the lineup they currently have.
The Milwaukee Brewers made a pair of trades on Monday, Aug. 3, but neither of those was for a bat.
While the two trades turned into three new pitchers for their big-league roster, Milwaukee's offense has been known to fail them in the past.
Case in point, Jacob Misiorowski delivered a seven-inning gem on Sunday, Aug. 2, but the team was shut out by the Los Angeles Angels, 3-0.
When going back to the 2025 National League Championship Series, the Brewers' offense simply had no answers to the Los Angeles Dodgers' pitching staff.
Milwaukee's hitters have their moments, no doubt, but this felt like the perfect time to add one of the many power hitters who were on the market, and the Brewers simply failed to do so.
Brewers swing and miss on acquiring a bat
According to MLB.com's Adam McCalvy, "As I've said for weeks, there isn't a bat believed to be available that is a fit for the current Brewers roster."
Obviously, it's not as easy as it seems. Christian Yelich is the primary designated hitter, and while he hasn't been out of this world here in 2026, he still gives the team enough of a reason to play mostly every day.
Catcher William Contreras is the backup DH, and it's rare that he has a true day off, even when he's not behind the plate.
The Brewers have to make room for these young players like Jackson Chourio, Cooper Pratt, and Luis Lara. They're stuck managing playing time between Jake Bauers and Andrew Vaughn at first base while Joey Ortiz and David Hamilton are splitting games at third.
Overall, it makes sense why they didn't make a move, but it still stings. An extra outfielder who has nice contact certainly wouldn't hurt, but the team is confident in what Brandon Lockridge brings to the roster, and he's set to return sooner rather than later.
Milwaukee has minor leaguers who can rake
Another big element in all of this is the fact that there are guys like Andrew Fischer in the minors who have shown an unbelievable amount of power. Obviously, no one expects him to be called up anytime soon, but the last thing the Brewers want to do is cause a situation where these top prospects are blocked from playing at the major-league level.
McCalvy's post came after Taylor Ward was traded, but Brewers fans had their eye on Hunter Goodman as well. Once the trade deadline came to an end, this team was left with a trio of pitchers, but ultimately they still got better, and that's all that matters.
