The Milwaukee Brewers evaluate rotation depth to combat a surging San Diego Padres lineup.

Is there a world where Dustin May doesn't make the Milwaukee Brewers roster in the National League Division Series?

According to General Manager and President of Baseball Operations Matt Arnold, that's certainly a possibility.

There have been a ton of discussions about the Brewers' big pickup at the trade deadline, as he simply hasn't been able to go deep into games and be the viable starter this team thought they were getting.

This Brewers rotation is missing Brandon Woodruff and Quinn Priester a bit extra right now, but Arnold discussed the team's strategy as they're set for a best-of-five series against the red-hot San Diego Padres.

Arnold says the Brewers are still deciding

As of Friday, Oct. 2, there have been no concrete decisions as to whether or not May will be making the NLDS roster.

There's certainly a world where the Brewers have already made up their mind and just aren't revealing that information to the public, though everything will become much clearer in the next 24 hours.

"We're not done having those conversations," Arnold said, according to FSRWI's Hunger Baumgardt. "I would say that he's been a big part of what we're doing here, and he's had some good success against the Padres."

Arnold said the Brewers will have that conversation "finalized" by the end of the day on Oct. 2, but then finished that sentence with "I think."

Milwaukee doesn't necessarily need a fourth starter for this series in particular, but it certainly wouldn't hurt with how the schedule is laid out.

Everyone knows that Jacob Misiorowski is taking the mound in Game 1, but the only other game of this series he's guaranteed to pitch in is the fifth and final one on Friday, Oct. 9, should the series make it to that point.

Otherwise, it's common knowledge that Logan Henderson is pitching Game 2, and then the rest is up to manager Pat Murphy and Co.

Robert Gasser's name has frequently come up as someone who could start Game 3 when the series heads to San Diego for at least one game at Petco Park on Tuesday, Oct. 6.

Other than that, Game 4 is a huge question mark. Kyle Harrison has historically struggled on the road, especially on the West Coast, but it would be quite a lengthy wait for May to pitch on Wednesday, Oct. 7, knowing his last regular-season appearance was on Sept. 26.

Keep in mind, May has only made it past 4.2 innings in one of his last eight starts.
